Question:

Hunter/Jumper Horse Colleges?

Hi!

I'm just looking for some reccomendations on good colleges offering opportunities to ride and show, as well as equestrian studies and majors in the US. Does anyonehave any suggestions? Right now I am looking at Stevens College in MO, but otherwise I am coming up short. If they allow small dogs in certain dorms, that would be a HUUGE advantage. I know Stevens College does.

Thank you!!

  1. I don't know about allowing dogs, but some good equestrian colleges in the midwest are: Lake Erie College (Ohio), University of Findlay (Ohio), Morehead State University (Kentucky), and Midway College (Kentucky).

LEC has a great facility and a lot of really good horses.  I've also been to Morehead and Midway and they have nice big barns and arenas.  Findlay has a really good reputation, but I've never been there.

  2. I know Baylor College in Texas gives great equestrian scholarships. A ton of schools have equestrian clubs or teams, and some schools offer a variety of disciplines to school and show for. I applied to five schools last fall, and luckily all of them had teams (Illinois Wesleyan, Indiana University, Michigan, Virginia, Miami of Ohio); each school varied on its degree of support and involvement. I know a few links that really helped me find riding teams; check them out and see if they help!
