Hunter Mahan to vacation during Ryder Cup
Hunter Mahan is so disheartened over the fact that he was not chosen in the Ryder Cup team that he says he will not watch it on TV either. Despite winning twice this year on the tour, he was left out of the team.
The main reason was his recent form. Mahan was not playing well lately and Davis Love III certainly chose those players who were in excellent form.
"I don't think so," Mahan said when asked if he would watch the matches on television.
"Being there, having gone through it ... it's tough to say that, too. You have so many friends on the team and you want them to do well. I don't feel good saying that, but I think it would be hard to sit and watch it. I'll watch the match results each game,
at the end of each day."
Mahan was part of the last two Ryder Cup teams that faced Europe.
His put in Valhalla was very crucial but it was his loss to Graeme McDowell which pinches him deep inside even after two years.
His final day loss to McDowell cost the USA team the Ryder Cup and he is eager to make amendments for it. However, he would now have to wait another two years for his chance.
Mahan feels empty from inside and it clearly showed at the BMW Championship, where he closed with 80 and 77.
Mahan will be going to Orlando this week to work on his swing before the Tour Championship. He and his wife are also planning a vacation sometime after the Tour Championship.
"Haven't figured it out yet," he said. "It's hard to watch something like that when you've been through it a few times, you know how much fun it is and you want to be there."
Mahan was just one spot short of the automatic qualification list. He feels he deserved a place in the Ryder Cup.
The fact that he has won twice on the tour and the motivation to amend what happened in Celtic Manor was good enough for his selection in the team makes it all more depressing for him.
