Hunter Pence speaks up after Houston Astros thwart Philadelphia in latest encounter – MLB Update
Right fielder, Hunter Pence, took the opportunity today to talk about himself and Roy Oswalt after the Philadelphia Phillies lost 1-5 to the Houston Astros on Monday, September 12 at the Minute Maid Park in Houston. The former Astros star commented on his
mentality and his partner, who was also a former Houston player.
The Phillies went in to their fourth and final game of the series against the Astros with Pence and Oswalt. Unfortunately, the home team was ready for the two former club members and they made short work of them as they brought in Brett Myers, a former Phillies’
man, to even the odds.
Pence managed to go 2 for 4 but his effort brought no assistance from the team. Oswalt, on the other hand, was treated badly by the Houston hitters as they managed to pick up five runs against 11 hits from the pitcher’s seven innings stint on the mound.
Pence however had a few words for the press when the game ended in defeat.
"I just go out there and do what I've always done," Pence said about his return to the Minute Maid Park. "I'm going to play as hard as I can. That's who I am. I hope that [Astros fans] respect that. I think they do. I also know the Houston fans aren't rooting
for the Phillies."
The outfielder also shared his views on Oswalt’s return to Minute Maid Park. He made it known that he is excited to see his team-mate go up the Houston mound against his former club.
"I love watching Roy pitch every day," Pence said. "Having Roy take the mound, as a lot of Astros fans know, is a great day. He works quick, and he's got outstanding stuff. He's a big-game pitcher."
Hunter Pence currently stands on a .313 batting average and he is looking to strengthen the Phillies that is currently without Chase Utley in the line-up. Hunter’s presence in the Phillies’ adds tremendous weight, as he a tremendous player with a competitive
spirit.
