Are loose ring bits (possibly with bit guards) allowed in the Hunter ring. I know that D-ring,Full Cheek and Pelhams are but I was just curious about loose rings. If there not allowed does anyone know why?

  1. There are no illegal bits for hunters, only non-traditional, which the judge may penalize. So if you must use that bit, you can, but I would try very hard to find a dee version! And judges do notice - just a few weeks I was called to the judges stand because the judge noticed that we were using a Myler dee snaffle with a fixed rein, which is technically a gag bit. She just wanted me to know that she noticed....

  2. yes that is legal.

  3. I think they are. Maybe not with bit guards. I'm not sure. The higher level you go, the more strict the judges are.

  4. Go to page 130 of the rule book they do seem to be permited: http://www.apha.com/forms/PDFFiles/ruleb...

  5. yes, but no bit guards... but be careful, if it is between you and another girl who rode equally well, a loose ring will lose to a D ring..

you can show is just about everything (except gags and elevators) but its a matter of tradition, and D rings are first, then full cheeks, then pelhams.
