  1. On a budget, my favorites and what I find to be durable and good quality are:

    Breeches:

  2. Charles Owen GR8 is a nice helmet. You could also look into the International (IRH) helmets - they are usually a little cheaper, but just as nice. Make sure to put your hair up in a hairnet.

Any long sleeved ratcatcher shirt in any color is fine :) Preferred brands = Essex, Tailored Sportsman, RJ Classic. Don't forget the choker.

Navy, hunter, gray or tan riding coat. Again, plenty of brands to choose from. I like RJ Classics. They're lightweight and affordable, but very nice looking. Grand Prix coats are nice too, but they're a little heavier and a lot pricier.

Tailored Sportman Professional breeches are the best. Their other breeches are nice too. If you're looking for a little cheaper, try Ariat. Remember, they really shouldn't be skin tight. They should be a little loose to provide you with comfort :)  Tan, beige, green-beige, or in some cases white.

A belt. I use a plain Edgewood belt, but many people like the "bling" belts. If that's what you're into, go for it. Any belt will do, really.

Ariat tall lace up field boots. (with or without zipper, your preference) The Crowne pro is nice, but Heritage will do. If you're looking to spend money on some REALLY nice boots, get custom Vogel's. They are the nicest boots known to man and they last forever, but they're pricey (~$1500) Looking for cheap? Go Devon-Aire, but they sometimes look a little plastic-y.

Gloves - black, any brand - just get something that feels comfortable on your hands and is nice and breatheable

Tall nylon socks to make your boots slide on and off easier

Do you really want to hear about underwear? LOL

    Have fun at your show!

EDIT: The ATH Switch is not actually velvet. Is is a material called Tech-Fab velveteen that is stain resistant and easier to clean. It looks nice though.

  3. yep amy you have got the list down to a 't'!

really, you should be wearing a velvet covered hat, hairnet, long sleeved shirt (pastel colours or white), stock or tie, white or cream jodhs/breeches, long black boots, spurs, gloves.

Any brand will do!!! i like Caldene, Mountain Horse, Ariat and some other brands but cant remember the names, but as long as it looks smart....

  4. I have a Charles Owen Helmet and I absolutely love it, the shape is pretty flattering for all face types! I also got a shirt from Charles Owen sent to me from them to try out.. I forget the style (its something new) but it fits great.

And Im all about the tailored sportsmen hunt coats and breeches! the jackets tend to run a little small, and I like the TS low ride breeches, they are very comfortable and give that great line down the leg! (and they are the least expensive of their breeches)...only bad thing with them is how they have to seam that goes around the calf..so if you have muscular (larger calves) you may need to go a size up. (Im a 28 in breeches usually and i got the TS 28s stuck on my calves when I tried it on! LOL...other then that they would have fit perfectly)

I currently have the Ariat heritage boots and love them, but if you got the money I would try the Der Dau boots!

  5. Light show shirts and dark jackets are in right now.

    My suggestion would be:

Helmet - IRH Get one all black, no stripe, all black is way classier and will be in forever. Charles Owen GR8 is lovely but IRH is way better priced.

Show shirt: I've had stirling (i think) and platinum, but ariat is also very nice. Get a lightish color of your choice, I love pinks personally but it's personal choice. Get the one with ventalation not all stiff and unbreathable.

Jacket: ARIAT ALL THE WAY! I have the pro series in green and love it. Navy would be more in right now and is more of a classic.

Breeches: Some people swear by Tailored Sportsman, but my favourites have always been ariat. They fit me really nicely. Go for a beige with no olive tones (that is so out)... and don't believe anyone who says rust is coming back in (barf)

Boots: I love ariats for all my boots, I believe I have the heritage and I love them. Fit is most important though.

    I hope this helps.
