  1. Here is  some info from Wikipedia--Show hunters, on the other hand, are shown over fences no greater than 4' in height, even at the highest levels, but are expected to display a cadence and elegance that is not necessary in show jumping.

Equitation courses resemble a hunter course, but are more technical, testing rider's skill and form. They often include combinations, tight turns, and difficult distances between fences. These courses reach 3'6" in height at the highest competitive level.

  2. pretty much they were asking you can your horse out run a speeding bullet lol! regular jumping is speed and endurance and hunter jumper is form and endurance and how well the horse handles commands. but the first one describes it to the dime!

  3. Well in a horse show a hunter/jumper class is judged on the riders postion, horses position while jumping, strides, circles, etc.

While a jumper class in a horse show is based on speed and refusals.  You could ride in a two point the whole time or do something  incorrect and still win if you got the highest speed then you would/ may go into a jump off!

    Hope that helps!

  4. beyond simple "jumping", there are two disciplines

    "hunter jumper" or "jumper" ("stadium")

hunter is grace and form, while jumper is speed

the first answer was a good description

  5. What defines a hunter:

--jumps with a clean style: even knees, relatively tight/square legs, eager expression

--has smooth, comfortable (yet active) gaits.

    --Has good/careful technique over fences

--responds smoothly and easily to rider's cues

--has nice, open pace on course

--pace is VERY consistent...should never speed up/slow down once pace is set

    --has a willing/eager disposition

--Another trait commonly favored in hunters is having their eyes almost level with their knees when jumping

    versus jumper:

--Jumpers must have speed and agility

--must be able to turn on a dime

--consistency/style, though good to have, is not a factor

If you look at the upper right hand picture here, you can see that this horse has good form, and would make a good hunter: http://bennyderuiterstables.com/horses_f...

    I hope this helps!!

ADD: you will notice that many jumpers have hunter form, but they can be much "hotter" (more to handle...require more contact/control of rider), which is what makes them jumpers much of the time, since jumpers must have that competitive spirit, while hunters are mainly concerned with jumping cleanly and stylishly with no need to change pace or technique.
