Hunting Calibre for Brumbie's (horses) and Camels?

I am looking at buying a Benelli R1 Synthetic and want to know if I will be able to take wild horses and camels with a 300WSM, or if I should just stick with the big 300Win Mag? I would like the less recoil. I also want to shoot pigs with it but I know the WSM will do the trick for that. The gun comes in 300Win Mag, 300WSM, 270WSM. It also comes in 30-06 but I don't want it in that calibre. Also- how do you become an aerial shooter in Australia? Or a professional feral animal culler. A website would be good.

  1. go with a 300 RUM and you can change the power levels using different ammo from 30-06 to 300 RUM power and the 300 RUM surpasses the 300 win mag and 300 short mag by quiete a few hundred lbs of energy and if you also want to try a caliber with a few different power levels the 338 win mag is a good choice too and you can get ammo with power from 325 wsm up to even 375 h&h in power if you can find it

  2. bottom line is, if you can place good shots even a 243 will do the job, you don't need big calibers unless you have to rip such bigger holes that the animal will bleed out, because you cant shoot heart lung shots, not saying you can't shoot good groups, but as i work in a gun shop i see it every day. not only that unless your a big guy, using bigger calibers will make you flinch and make your shots even worse. .308 with ballistic tips would be my weapon of choice. but if you want a WSM cal, go for the 270WSM  both 300WM and 300WSM have a tendency to over penetrate if you want to use it for multi tasking. also just so that you know about 14 month ago Winchester were selling their wsm cals at less than their original wholesale price, because they couldn't sell them, they were a fizzer,

to answer the other question about becoming a professional shooter, you have to prove that, pest control, animal culling, shooting whatever contributes greatly to your income, by getting signed document from land owners ect, but you only need to be demmed a pro shooter if you want a cat c or d license. hope that helps

  3. The difference ballistically between 300 WinMag and 300 WSM is trivial. Elmer Kieth, though, noted in one of his books how hard it is to put down a horse humanely. And he wasn't known to be shy about using large chamberings.
