Question:

Hunting/Pocket Knife- Gift for future husband?

Ok guys, I've been looking at hunting knives for literally YEARS! I want to buy my fiance a really nice knife for a wedding present (we're getting married in two months). He "lost" his favorite knife about 3 years ago (he had to leave it behind when we were going through a metal detector and --of course-- it was gone when we returned). I've seriously never seen him so devistated over a "material possession" and still to this day doesn't like to talk about it. Yeah-- he got that upset about his knife!!!

Anyway, meanwhile he carries around some cheap knife, but I really wanted to get him something NICE, that he could carry every day, and actually use-- I don't want something that will sit in the tin collecter's box forever (what good is that?). :)

Unfortunately, I never really noticed what kind of knife he used to have! :( I've tried to hint about it, with no luck. So I decided to just look for a good quality knife, and not worry about what he used to have!

I've looked at Case knives (I think he likes this brand- I've heard him comment on a friend's Case before). I also looked at Buck knives- I really think he'd LOVE this one-

...just not sure about the price on that one (so expensive!). Is the knife really, honestly that high of quality? Would he be able to use it DAILY?!

I also thought he might like something like this:

...All I know is that he's not the kind of guy who likes "utility" style knives. He'd rather have one with a handle made of whitetail antlers versus a steel/black/blued handle... You know what I mean?!

Also, he definitely USES his knives. He actually works in a forest- forestry and wildlife are his career, not just a hobby. So I think he puts a lot of value on a "good, quality knife".

Does anyone know any really good options for him? ...And remember, this is a wedding gift, so I just don't think a $20 knife from the tractor supply store will really do. :)

Any imput would be really, really helpful! Thanks!!!!!

  1. Kershaw; I saw a link above so go there. Ive been using them for a long time and im sold. Check out  Ken Onion designed ones andI'mm sure he will be happy. Some walmarts and Big5 stores carry them. And congratsand hope you have a fun, good life together!

  2. It would help if we knew your price range.  As a wedding gift, are you willing to outlay $75? what about $200?

are there any length restrictions in your area?

medium length voyager clip is an excellent choice here, and some places require knive blades to be 3 inches or less

I've been eyeing up this one but it has a 4 inch blade which is a no-no for some places

this damascus blade looks very nice

  3. Wow, you have really thought this through huh....dang...maybe a little too much...anyways. I've always liked my Gerber. But I will pretty much use anything that's sharp enough. But seriously...why don't you just ask him what one he likes?

I have one of these, bought one for my dad for fathers day. I carry mine daily. It takes and holds an edge well, and is just a sturdy little knife. It will serve as a hunting knife as well when the need arises. I have had many knives over the years, my favorites were always shcrades, gerbers are pretty good too if you get the right ones.

Benchmade and spyderco also make very good knives.

the company that made this knife makes many different models and styles, this is jsut the one I have.

  5. G'Day mate i would go for the second one id would love if you buy me one also. cheers mate

  6. Congratulations on getting married!

Your husband sounds like a guy who would like a Knives of Alaska knife.  The knives are made with D2 steel instead of a common steel.  They are high quality production knives that last a long time and stay sharp.  Only ceramic blades stay sharper longer.

I bought my K of A knife and love it!  It's much better than the generic Gerber's, Kershaw's, etc.

  7. Case or Hen & Roster would be my first choice picks for a gift knife that will actually be used
