  1. Yes Alaska and Vermont are the only two (2*) States that respect, honor, and live up to the true meaning of our 2nd Amendment and Bill of Rights.* All the rest of the States violate, deny, subvert, compromise, abuse, and ignore our fundamental Right as Free Men to the Right to Keep and Bear Arms without Infringement.*

  2. Alaska doesn't require a license to carry a handgun, open or concealed.  There are federal lands, including some national parks, in Alaska that ban all firearms.  But you obviously won't be hunting in those places.  Have fun!

  3. I am a certified Alaskan Hunter Safety Instructor.

If your dad provides you a pistol and ammo - yes - you can carry it while hunting with him.  Is this a good idea?  Probably not.  Most holsters are not designed with junior shooters in mind - it may seem 'cool' the first hour - but - after that it will get real old, real quick.  You do not want to be two hours into your dream 'Alaskan Hunt' and then have to turn around because your pistol is chaffing a wound into your side.  And when you get tired of carrying the thing - who has to carry it for you?

If you are considering a pistol as added bear protection - at your age you cannot handle a pistol that will do more damage to a bear than your rifle.  Stick with the rifle.

I am retired military.  The unsafe issue is mixing young men and pistols - even in the military on guard duty - they can't keep them in the holster.  Gotta take it out, check it, recheck it, recheck it......then oop's - you just shot your friend.  You have an accident in Alaska with a gun - there are no ambulances or hospitals just down the street.  While hunting, might take you two days to get out of the woods and to a place where you could be flown to a hospital.  People die here from these kind of accidents EVERY WEEK here.  It is so common many newspapers don't bother mentioning it anymore up here............. so having an inexperienced teen carrying a pistol on an Alaskan Hunting trip really is a very, very bad idea.  Believe me - you'll have enough challenges to overcome in Alaska.

The last thing you need is a few extra pounds of useless metal to ruin your Alaskan Hunting trip.  And the last thing anyone needs is a split second of carelessness to ruin a life.

    Hope this helps

  4. last time i checked Alaska was part of the USA and according to the 2nd amendment you have the right to bear arms.

Straight from the horses mouth. I would also cover that site from top to bottom if I were planning an outing in Alaska.

    Take care!

Yeah, I am back on my meds now so not as mean....lol

  6. I always carry a side-arm when hunting, I rarely use it but yes, as long as no laws are broken and you are properly trained & have permission.
