  1. Best source of info for you would be to contact your local Department of Fish and Game or Department of Natural Resources.  Generally speaking though hunting and hunters contibute billions of dollars a year in to conservation programs that benefit all wildlife here in the USA.

  2. well your question is kind of saying a statement more than asking a question.

cause hunting will kill the animal since that is really what hunting is .

a better question would of been is regulations working and are hunters following them . and is this leading to healther wildlife population or decreased population .

but don't worry about the deer population just saw 6 today .

  3. I'm not saying hunting is good, just that:

---121 million birds a year are killed by hunting, and

---- 1 BILLION are killed flying into windows

  4. I believe it is working well enough.  But for those who say it is a sport, aren't both teams supposed to know that they're playing?  And honestly, they don't 'cause rucuss' where we are, it's the other way around.  Dumb @$$.

  5. I'm not a hunter, but I think they serve a good purpose.  The DNR is one of the few government agencies that actually does a good job at what they are supposed to be doing, I think they're keeping the wildlife population in check while at the same time making sure nothing becomes extinct!

As far as I know, hunters are good at following the rules the DNR sets up for them.

  6. If all hunters are following the rule there are sure some who don't,i feel that its better not to hunt you are taking pleasure on other's pain

  7. I honestly think that the hunters are killing our animals and that they are causing the extinction of our species. Some people hunt for survival, which in my opinion is fine, but doing it when you have food at your home, and you are just doing it for sport it is wrong.

  8. Wildlife mgmt works for its designed purpose; to maintain a stable population for hunting.

When we destroyed all or most of the natural predators (ie wolves, bears, mtn lions, etc.) the prey populations naturally exploded. Now there are so many deer that if hunting ceased, they would over run the ecosystem and most of the population would die of starvation and disease.  Hunters have replaced the natural predators.

From a true wildlife perspective, it would be best to re-introduce the natural predators and re-stabilized the system. But hunters like to hunt, and having Mtn lions and wolves around residential areas would mean people get attacked.  So we are left with what we have now.  Hunters as the predators in the system.

The prey animal populations are in no danger of collapsing. Some predator populations are in danger from lack of habitat, poaching and ranchers killing them for killing livestock.

  9. Most hunters do follow the rules and they are in fact among the most active conservationist we have.  Anyone who enjoys hunting is very concerned about maintaining a sustainable population of prey animals to be hunted in the future.

There are of course always some bad apples in any bunch and these must be dealt with by the proper authorities.  The financing of these authorities is, by the way, one of the chief uses of fees derived from hunting licenses and permits.

  10. Look on a hunting site like Outdoor Life or Field and Stream and you will find that hunters can't keep up with the deer population. We need more hunting. Most outdoorsmen do follow the laws. It's very expensive not to.

  11. Being a hunter myself, I do believe it is working. Some hunters don;t follow the rules, but most hunters, like myself, will drag our tired butts over to Walmart and buy a deer tag. I have seen one guy in my hunting career do the wrong thing. He shot a deer and cut it up himself. Now that is illegal, but chances are no one know, but him and myself. So yes it works. Just think if there was no hunting, would you want all that wildlife running around causing car crashes in your city? I didn't think so. Some people will beg to differ on what I just said and they will say things like, "wildlife did just fine before we started hunting." Well before we got here there wasn't alot of civilization for animals to run about causing rucuss. Now we have to control the population of wildlife or they will control us. Could you imagine being stuck in your house because 100 black bears live in your back yard?

  12. If done legally...hunting is actually good for animal conservation.  Money obtained for hunting licenses, hunting clubs, etc. provides a LOT of money that goes back into wildlife conservation.  Also, huge areas are left wild for hunters to hunt in.  These areas might otherwise be turned into condos or mini-malls if not for hunters lobbying to keep wild areas wild.  Hunters also provide food for animals year round that might otherwise starve to death.  An example is duck hunting clubs..they provide a water and food source for waterfowl year round. (this is especially important during migration and winter when food sources are low)  Many of these birds will be shot by hunters...but thousands more will survive that may have otherwise starved to death if not for the hunters providing a resting spot for them to refuel.
