Hunting with my Boxer/Terrier mix in Louisiana.?

I have a Boxer/Terrier mix that is 3 years old. She is healthy and energetic and pretty fast. I don't think she is gritty enough for hogs or coyotes so I was wondering what I should hunt with her and how to get her started. Any links you can include will help.

  1. Yes. Steroids do increase caltex overdose.

  2. Your best bet, considering the terrier that is in her, is too train her to tree squirrel's Or run rabbits. Both are a ton of fun to hunt with a dog. To get her started on squirrel's, take her into the woods with you, and kill the first squirrel you see. Let the dog l**k on it, bite it, whatever. Take the squirrel and pull on it- the dog will bite and dig in and try to maintain control of it. Take the squirrel and put it in a bush just out of reach of the dog- encourage her and get her excited over seeing the squirrel- make a big thing out of getting her excited over the squirrel- The old timers would gut the squirrel and feed the dog the liver, heart and kidneys at this point- but I have found out that a doggie treat at this point will work just as good,. and a lot less bloody. Take her several times into the woods, repeating the process- it wont be long and she will see one on the ground and chase it up a tree- This is the one you really need to kill-make a big deal over the dog when you shoot the squirrel out and the dog grabs it. After a few weeks, the dog should be hunting the squirrel's for you. She may not bark at the tree the first few months of hunting squirrels, but she will at some point if you keep taking her and making a big deal when you get a squirrel with her. It's a lot of fun, go for it!

  3. All dogs are trainable.  You will need to run your dog with other dogs...your dog will learn from them.  Seems like a boxer-terrier mix would be too slow for coyotes.  Don't know about hogs...I've seen all kinds of dogs used on hogs.  Just be sure to vest and collar your dog if you go after hogs - be prepared for your dog getting killed or injured.  Get in contact with local dog hunters and see what they think.

  4. To old to train now. Best bet is to stud him out, get the "pick-of-the-litter" and start training the pup.
