  1. run your own race.  if a hurdler is faster than you, don't go and worry over her.  concentrate on your hurdling.  plus, turning your head to another direction tends to tell your legs to run in that direction.  don't pull in hurdling, instead push.  be aggressive, especially if your neighbors tend to get into contact with you.  run faster in between the hurdles and over the hurdles and you'll do great.  the faster your hands move the faster your feet move.  stay hydrated and don't do anything you don't normally do in meets.  have fun and stay relaxed.

  2. If you made it to states you must be doing something right, right? Just relax, and do what you can. Be sure to snap your legs down as hard and fast as you can when coming over the hurdles.

  3. If you made it to state, what kind of help do you need?

    Obviously you are good.

You will be nervous before a race, but you can control those nerves, and focus your energy on running well.

Warm up the same way you always warm up, don't shorten your warm up to save energy.

When your heat is up, immediately set you blocks, and come out and go over the first hurdle once.

Then stand behind your blocks, relax.

Don't look at the other runners during the race, concentrate on the next hurdle.

  4. first off, congrats on making it to state...i too am a hurdler, hear's my warmup before a race: warmup lap with the team and stand up stretches....usually i do some more running cuz my legs get cold in the time between team warmup and the time i have to warmup for the hurdles...then i do full stretches..extra hurdle stretch..pendulum swings...then i do hurdle drills (do whatever you are used to doing before practice) also i ALWAYS warm up in pants..no matter how hot it it. this keeps my legs pleanty loose. (i do take them off when i go over a hurdle though) i don't go over the hurdles more than 3 times before the race..usually i go over 3 the first and second time and 2 the last...then i wait for my heat..i always test my blocks to make sure they are set right, but i dont go over a hurldle after the official lining up...when your in the race just focus of speed and power..dont be intimidated by weather...even in bad wind you can still get your 3step without any problem...finally (and most important) try not to watch the comepetition..just because someone has a good warmup doesn't mean they can go the full race that well..god luck!
