So I got my travel package through expedia who I called last night to find out what our options are about canceling etc. She told me I had to just keep checking back because the airlines are still running. I don't know what to do. Can I change my intinerary and go someplace else or do I have to cancel and eat some of our money and redo all of it. We are not willing to risk our lives to go to Cancun when there is a possibility of a Hurricane of a size 4 hitting for the first two days we are there. Any help would be SOOO appreciated.

  1. Please read this very important article regarding Cancun and Hurricane Dean:

  2. Same i got a packet for cancun but the staff that works at check in says our flight got canceled and they said i can wait in NYC or go to mexico to wait ive decided to stay here and call my Agent the next morning so i did my agent said the plane flew to cancun. I Asked what do i do now? they said well u can still go to cancun before without any charge before dec.15th i got this paper or reservation thingy i told them and thats what they told me as well

  3. Check with the airline if you can reeschedule your trip. They should not charge you because of the hurricane. Try doing the same with the hotels. The hurricane on Tuesday should be on its way to Texas, so it could be a good day for flying if you were able to change your schedule and damage is not as bad on  Cancun. THe hurricane is moving fast so midweek should be ok to travel.

  4. My flight to Cancun from San Francisco was scheduled for August 18 early morning. Reservations were made trough Orbitz. It was a pure lack that I was watching weather channel the day before and found out that Cancun is about to take a major hit....When I called Orbitz  on August 17 late evening to cancel the trip their website was down and I had to call United directly to cancel. I called United twice and they assured me they gave me the credit but when I called Orbitz at 7 AM next day when their website was back on, they told me that United newer canceled my reservation... So Orbitz canceled it as well as a hotel. Hotel gave me the full refund. United never canceled the flight itself. It did flu to Cancun on August 18. I'm not sure how many passengers they had. I used the flight credit and the hotel refund  immediately  to book Hawaii. I hope my experience can help. Oh, one more thing. Orbitz e-mailed me a hurricane warning only today... Well... It's better later than newer:)

  5. This happened to me 2 years ago...I purchased the insurance, and immediately got a credit for the hotel and all-inclusive. I had to wait until the airline cancelled to recieve that money back...We changed our trip 10 days prior to when we were supposed to leave, and ended up with a beautiful trip to Aruba!

  6. I spent all day on the phone changing my reservations.  I am going to the sister resort on the West Coast of Mexico at no charge (my travel agent was closed this weekend - imagine that!) and I spent 4 hours on the phone with the airline and got them to change my tickets to the new airport at no charge.  So just take control of the situation yourself!  They are all concerned about getting people out - instead of people in!  I was just in Cancun in May and was told that in 2005 when they took a direct hit - it wiped out all the resorts - so I was not going to wait and see!  And if you read the news - they are asking that airlines NOT bring in anyone until at least Weds. when they know what the damage will be.  They are evacuating people from resorts now - so all you would get to do is stay in an evacuation center.

  7. Just read in the mexican newspaper (reforma.com, eluniversal.com.mx) that all flights to cancun have been cancelled. August, Sat 18 7pm. CST
