Hello All

I was wondering will Hurricane Dean hit the Tulum area? If so, will hotels/vacations be back in order in time for Feb 2008? I have a vacation in mid Feb and I really hope the hotel doesn't get obliterated! :-!

  1. It's looking like it will hit the Yucatan but by mid-Feb. your hotel will probably be fine.

  2. no one knows until tomorrow, it can change, depends on if the hurricane pass thru the north or the south of Jamaica =P im not kidding that'll happen until 3 pm et on sunday

  3. dont know

  4. Um, maybe wait and see if the hurricane actually hits Riviera Maya. Then call your hotel in a couple of days and ask?

  5. Don't worry. In case it happens everything would be back in place in no more than 3 months. After Katrina even the sand dissapeared and special ships were brought and pump sand all over the beach. Louisiana, Miss and other states are still under construction!!! Hotel corps and Federal government in México really work together with the population and they have done real amazing things.

  6. Will Tulum be affected?  Undoubtedly.  All the major hurricane tracking plots show that Hurricane Dean will make landfall on the peninsula fairly near to Tulum, and certainly close enough that even a "miss" to the north or south of Tulum won't make a difference.  February 2008 is many months away, so it's impossible to say how your vacation then will be affected.  If your hotel is inland, away from any coastal flooding and erosion, then it might only suffer some wind damage.  By comparison, hotels in Cancun after past hurricanes, suffered not only wind damage, but also beach erosion.  Wind damage can be pretty bad though, so after Hurricane Dean goes through, call the hotel or travel agent and see what arrangements can be made.  One thing is for sure: after a natural disaster, your tourism dollars will be most welcome!
