Hurricane Earl and Deutsche Bank Championship approach Boston
As Hurricane Earl approaches Boston, the players teeing off at the Deutsche Championship tomorrow feel more under pressure than they already were. Due to the weather forecasts, players are scheduled early at what is set to be the second round of the FedEx cup. The tee times have been moved forty-minutes ahead. It is still unclear whether moving the schedule will benefit the players in being punctual in the Championship
Deutsche bank has been linked with this Championship since 2003, and will keep on sponsoring it for a minimum two years more. Another sponsor of this event is Hopkinton-based EMC Corp. The Bank’s chief executive says that this competition has been an important part of their brand-building efforts and is a relevant part of their brand strategy. “Not only does the Deutsche Bank Championship provide us with worldwide exposure, it also gives us a unique opportunity to build business relationships and support the community, having generated $17 million in charitable contributions and hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity for the region since the Championship began”, said the bank’s CEO.
There are now 100 players remaining in the FedEx up after The Barclay’s event. With the Deutsche Championship a platform for the top seventy, thirty players will be eliminated at the end. This means that players who already aren’t in the top rankings need to do their best and strive to remain in the top seventy. A lot of rain is expected due to Hurricane Earl in Boston and is making the officials plan ahead of time. The first tee off will start at 7am tomorrow with Shaun Michael, Vijay Singh and Pat Perez competing.
Tiger Woods will start at 11.42 am and Phil Mickelson will start at 12.18 pm according to the altered timings. The Championship is supposed to finish by Monday but if it progresses until Tuesday, this will mean a little relaxation for the players prior to the BMW Championship starting at Cog Hill from the ninth.
The Championship taking place at PC Boston in Massachusetts has gotten many imminent personalities facing off each other. One player who is really in the spot light these days is Tiger Woods. He did survive The Barclays, ending in 65th place. Woods will need to work on the top 30 just like he did on the top ten at Barclays. Tiger Woods has won the Deutsche Bank Championship one time before. This time things are different as Woods is in the late starters. Friday morning is expected to be clear, which is a good thing for the starters. Matt Kuchar and Steve Stricker, who are No 1 and 2 in the FedEx Cup standings respectively. If the course gets muddy and wet, it’s very unlikely that the game will continue.
The winner of The Barclay’s tournament and leader of the cup at the moment, Matt Kuchar tees off at eight in the morning. Matt, who is having an awesome golf year is very eager for the championship. He had a bogey-free finish at The Barclays and 7-iron to tap-in range for birdie leading him to the topmost position in the standings.
Coming as the defending champion, Steve Stricker says that this place reminds him of positive things and has a very positive vibe to it. He tied in for third at Barclays to stay at No.2, performed well and is really looking forward to the Championship. Woods on the other side was at No 112 until he tied for 12th last week. This was his best finish since June. People are talking about the possibility of his not attending the BMW Championship, where he is the defending champion. This shows what a rough year poor Tiger has had. Now the golfers will just need to struggle and compete with the best as they strive to move up the FedEx cup standings
Kuchar, Stricker, Woods and various other players are very excited for the game tomorrow. This is an important round of the FedEx cup for the players and will bring them closer to the 10 million dollar prize. Now hopefully, the weather is on the side of the golfers and lets them continue as planned.
