Hurricane Fly bidding for his third win in Rabobank Champion Hurdle at Punchestown
Willie Mullins’ champion runner, Hurricane Fly, is geared up to record his third victory in the Grade 1 Rabobank Champion Hurdle, set to take place at Punchestown on Friday, April 27,
2012.
In 2010, he won this race by a tiny margin. Solwhit gave him a hard time on the track, but the maverick runner managed to seal the top place by a neck’s distance.
In last year’s Rabobank Champion Hurdle, Hurricane Fly outpaced Thousand Stars by five lengths. Under Ruby Walsh, the George Creighton-owned is looking to add another emphatic win to his tally.
Since his debut in 2006, the dashing gelding has been producing good results for Willie Mullins. Let’s see how the 2011 Stan James Champion Hurdler winner manages things to bag his 11th Grade 1 triumph.
After registering seven successive wins, he recently exhibited a dismal show. In the Stan James Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy at Cheltenham last month, the 4-6 favourite was outpaced by Rock On Ruby.
Today’s 2-mile is an ideal opportunity for the champion gelding to regain his winning momentum. He does not have much time to complete his preparations, as the party is about to commence.
According to the schedule, the mega event is due to get underway at 17:30 GMT. Among the entries are: Hurricane Fly, Thousand Stars, Zaidpour and The Real Article.
Hurricane Fly’s stable mate, Thousand Stars, is also in good shape following his decent performance at Aintree earlier this month.
The 2011 Ladbrokes.com Morgiana Hurdle winner displayed a wonderful performance in the Grade 1 John Smith's Aintree Hurdle, but missed the top spot by a neck’s distance.
Zaidpour was below par last time out. After grabbing four consecutive wins, Mullins’ trainee lost his direction and as a result, finished eighth in the Grade 1 Stan James Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy at Cheltenham Festival.
The stats show that it is going to be a hard battle among Mullins’ powerful runners. According to our predictions, Hurricane Fly has the highest chance of winning, as he holds a tremendous track record. We wish the best of luck
to everyone.
