Hurricane Fly is ready for another Punchestown in November after winning one in May this season
The seven-year-old Irish, Hurricane Fly, trained by W P Mullins, is headed towards the Morgiana Hurdle next month which will also mark the beginning of his new campaign at Punchestown. The last that he ran and won this season was at Punchestown. The trainer
has some aims and alternatives already set in case those aims fail to surface.
"The Morgiana is the obvious race to start off. We'll have that at the back of our minds and see how we go. He missed it last year because he had a bit of a cough, so he will probably go there or he could go for the Hatton's Grace over two and a half miles”,
the trainer told 'At The Races'.
"I don't see any reason to change his programme from last year. Fingers crossed he could have another good year”.
The trainer continued: "He's going jumping. We'll see how he jumps fences. He jumped them well last year when we schooled him. If he shows gears we'll go for the Arkle, but I never make a decision about that at this time of the year”.
Last year he raced and won thrice, the Punchestown, the Fairyhouse and to end the hat-trick, the Leopardstown.
All the victories came with P Townend onboard.
This season again, he has been nothing less than consistent with the exact number of runs and wins till now but two of these came with R Walsh onboard.
The November episode will be his comeback after the last run on 6th May this year.
There were six horses contesting for the title on the track that day.
With R Walsh onboard, Hurricane Fly settled behind the leaders, going fifth halfway and fourth with around four furlongs to go.
He improved into a close third position with two furlong to go, travelled well to lead before the last furlong and then pushed out with a consistent pace to finish the race easily.
The runner-up for this race was from the same trainer, W P Mullins.
Thousand Stars came second with Ms K Walsh onboard, soon followed by Nicky Henderson’s Binocular, ridden by A P McCoy.
Yet another entry form the winning trainer was Blackstairmountain who finished the race in the end with E Mullins onboard.
Hurricane Fly has the option for the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse in December even if he misses out on the Grade One contest on 20th November. With targets set and decisions made, all that is left for Hurricane Fly to do is to prepare to
win yet again.
