Hurricane Fly makes an impressive reappearance in the Dobbins & Madigans @ Punchestown Morgiana Hurdle
The Irish bay gelding, Hurricane Fly, became a true sight to witness in the Grade 1 Dobbins & Madigans @ Punchestown Morgiana Hurdle on 18th November, 2012 at Punchestown race course over two miles. He presented the connections with the third success on the card as earlier, the W. P. Mullins trained, Twinlight and Back In Focus, visited the winner’s enclosure.
Hurricane Fly had onboard jockey, Ruby Walsh, for a straight sixth time, and the team landed fifth success in union.
The eight-year-old was entered as the favourite and was nothing less than brilliant over the nine hurdles. His charge and dominance over the heavy ground became inevitable just when Go Native missed the final flight and crashed down.
The most favoured entry was not threatened even when the eventual third finisher was right at his heels. A mile down the track distance, the entry backed by 2 to 5 odds was leading by two good lengths.
His victory only became more affirmative once jockey, P. Carberry’s mount could not come clean out of the final jump.
The winner was well out of reach of the rest of the lot, as he won by the staggering margin of twelve lengths.
The happier than ever trainer stated:
"It looked like there was going to be no pace and we felt we would have to make it (the running).
"We weren't worried about the trip or ground. All we were really worried about was facing two rivals who were race-fit. As he gets older he seems to settle better and hopefully he'll improve from that. He's certainly a different horse to last year. I was not happy with him last season.
"We'll look at Leopardstown at Christmas now and the plan will be that, the Irish Champion and Cheltenham as the races are well spread out. He'll be entered up in everything."
The 2011 champion hurdle hero has been successful in three out of the four seasonal outings, all of them became possible with the guidance of the sensational rider, Ruby Walsh.
The Irish bay gelding cracked open the season with a success in the Grade 1 BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle on 29th January, 2012 at Leopardstown over two miles.
The George Creighton Parco bred then managed bagging the winner’s prize money of the Grade 1 Rabobank Champion Hurdle at Punchestown.
The gelding has set sail for one of his best campaigns.
