Okay I am supposed to go to MSY (Louis Armstrong) Airport on Sunday and Go to New York, but I am wondering if the airport is going to shutdown before that? I mean What do people think about this Hurricane?

I am wondering if it will hit us straight on or maybe Texas or Mexico? Also, what would New Orleans be like if it got hit again by another potential powerful hurricane?

  1. Gustav won't hit until Tuesday.  You should be ok on Sunday, but be prepared for a sudden change of plans if Gustav should decide to speed up.

There's a great set of links for tracking Hurricane Gustav on http://www.USAMediaGuide.com.  You can find links to the current projected path, the National Hurricane Center, local TV and newspaper coverage, live online webcams and more.

  2. While its still uncertain, projections say that Gustav will hit the Gulf Coast sometime on Monday. Good chance its Louisiana. If you plan to leave Sunday, I would try to see if you can move your flight up as soon as possible and get out sooner. Once they order the evacuation then everyone will be trying to leave so you will want to get ahead of everyone. Its also Labor Day weekend and a high travelled weekend. Once the weather gets bad, the airport may close too.

  3. It is too soon to know where Gustav will make landfall or how strong the storm will be when it does.

However, the earliest New Orleans could feel any effects of the storm is Monday afternoon, and that assumes the storm heads directly for NOLA as soon as it is past Cuba.

Most/all airlines allow passengers to alter their flights without penalty when bad weather threatens to disrupt air traffic.  Consider calling the airline and asking if you can change your trip to Saturday if it is critical you go to NY.

    Good luck!

  4. i dont know, but please get outta here with your family, this cant be like it was last people need to LEAVE

  5. You need to watch the Weather Channel and monitor local news. If the authorities say to evacuate, then get out.

What would it be like to be hit by another powerful hurricane? Bad.

    Regards,

    Dan
