Question:

Hurricane Gustav--Think it will hit New Orleans?.?

Really worried about New Orleans. Had the same bad feeling about Katrina before it hit, and none of my friends believed me. Still displaced, moved a year ago because no tourists= no money for a french quarter bartender.

With all the oil refineries in the area, the potential effect could be god awful for the rest of the states too.

Anyone else have the same scary feeling? Please be real with the answers. People simply stating that New Orleans shouldn't be rebuilt, or being mean about, it just pours salt in a deep wound for a lot of people. Myself included. I want to go back home someday.

  1. It is too soon to know where Gustav will make landfall.  The projected path shows possibilities from southern Texas to western Florida.

It is also too soon to know how strong the storm will be when it does make landfall - the storm is currently not a hurricane:

I have had enough of the rant and insults like the "answer" from Tom.  In another "question" the poster stated we (people in New Orleans) should all drown.  Don't take it anymore - report them.

  2. Its projected to come this way on about tuesday so its good to be prepared. But anything can happen. Hopefully it will not cause any major issues. Friday is the annivesary of Katrina so we really dont need any other reminders.

  3. I had the same bad feeling before Katrina, and I'm scared to death right now.  Life just got back to normal and theres a chance its going to get all effed up again.  I should move North lol!

  4. Hey, it's hard for me to make a smile now. I live in Louisiana and I'm real worried too. Our state isn't that rich in the first place, I must admit. And we been spending lots of money to rebuild that marvelous place. I sure hope that this doesn't happen. I don't live in New Orleans - 3 hours away, but I am sad and frightened. Katrina was terrible, Gustav shouldn't make it's way here.

I'm very proud of you Miss thang and Katie :)

  5. I'm really scared that it will be another horrible hurricane like Katrina.

I live on the Northshore, so we mainly get a BUNCH of trees down.

But, yeah, I'm really worried for New Orleans. The progress all over the metro area is tremendous, and I'd be so mad/pissed if this happened.

  6. I hope not, I am in the US Marine Corps, and I am scheduled to go back home this Thursday....to see my son, but if it hits by Thursday...my trip is cancelled, and I will be so upset, because I have been waiting to see my son for a long time!!

  7. People like Tom are just trying to get reactions. He has nothing better to do but sit around and entertain himself by upsetting others...

    Regardless,

I also live in New Orleans. I did not choose to live here yet my husband and I have built a wonderful life for ourselves in a wonderful community called Algiers Point.

I lost everything in Katrina, family, friends, all my past, my home... everything. I am just now getting my life back

I;m hoping it doesn't come here.

I know so many of us have dealt with "Katrina stress" and this anniversary is hard enough to face. I can't tell how much is that or this storm that I'm feeling. I'm with you though, I told many friends to come visit the week prior to Katrina before it was too late as a big one would come and it would never be the same... I have that same feeling now.

I think we'll be out of town this weekend... just to be safe and at the very least as a much needed break from the city.

  8. Born & Raised here in New Orleans, I just recently moved back home 3 months ago....& I'm hoping we don't have to evacuate....All we can do is PRAY & be Prepared this time you guys....!!! WE LOVE OUR CITY!!! & people will never understand how we feel, but what they fail to realize is that MOTHER NATURE can appear any & everywhere....SO with lots of love, lets pray on this!!!

  9. More than likely, yes.  But if you live anywhere along the Gulf Coast, you better be paying attention to this one.  They're saying it will be a Category 4 or 5 when it hits.

You can easily track Gustav with the special section of links on http://www.USAMediaGuide.com.  There, you can find links to the projected path, National Hurricane Center coverage, local TV and newspaper coverage, live webcam feeds, and other Gustav stuff.

  10. Well, Tom, where are you from. Probably some boring *** city with no character or history. While New Orleans needs a major overhaul, starting with the levee system (I will acknowledge our problems), we have a spirit here that you couldn't begin to understand. And by the way, I was "one of those" responsible people who actually paid for and has insurance when the storm flooded my home, which is outside of the city in an area that doesn't normally flood. So F off.

As to answer the question, I am worried but I don't know what to think. I just hope and pray it goes elsewhere!

  11. well first off this is for TOM....there are a lot of decent people in new orleans who love their home town...would you want your hometown to be devastated?! I am a Registered Nurse and my husband works for the port...we have made a beautiful life here for ourselves and our children! yes there is quite a bit of government assisted families here but open those eyes of yours and look around because its everywhere!

now back to the question....i have had a gut feeling about this storm from the first time i heard it...and it seems to be coming in our direction...all i can say is take what you cant replace and leave and thank god to still be alive. goodluck to whatever happends...me on the other hand i have a responibility to my patients who are premature infants and i will be by there side every step of the way now matter what happends!

  12. hey your in pitt! I'm in erie, I lived in NOLA pre kat. I was a glass blower there, I have since given it up as I also depended on tourism. well I am also praying for that beautiful city! my beau's family lives there, I hope I can also move back someday. My best to you.

  13. yes but I dont think its all that they are making it to be
