Question:

Hurricane Gustav and hurricanes in general, why . . . ?

Why do people think the government and/or other entities are responsible for doing everything. I live in a tornado state and sure don't wait for or expect the government to take me to their basement! I am referring to a news story currently concerning the long waits in line to get on an evacuation bus. One New Orleans woman is quoted as yelling at a reporter "They're not taking care of us down here!!" No one cares for me when we have flash floods, storms, tornadoes, etc. How 'bout gettin on your own bus days ago and gettin' the #@%& out.

  1. The government should be the last resort as a resource for evacuation.  Anybody that depends on the government is looking for disappointment.  If you are able to do it yourself, do it.  If you can help your neighbor who needs help, do it.  You know your area better than the government does.

Depending on the government may sometimes be necessary, but those who do, don't seem to appreciate it much.  It doesn't make them happy, does it?  Self-reliance makes people happy; and receiving a hand from a neighbor also makes for gratitude and happiness.

  2. you bet ye.

  3. It is a general attitude the people have. No personal responsibility. I am guessing they are scared and don't have the money or don't want to spend the money to get on their own bus, plane, etc. A sense of entitlement. It is frustrating. Maybe it is the down side of having a government that bails people out at all different times with welfare and such. I am glad that the resources are there for people but the attitude of uneducated people comes with it. No thought for where the money for any of this comes from and no humility. I think that lady was talking out of fear and desperation though.

  4. I have wondered this myself.  I do know that the government does give special help to those that cannot evacuate on their own but everyone else needs to get their *** in gear and get a move on.

They cannot expect everyone else to take responsibility for them if they have no motivation to look after themselves.

  5. Because global warming/climate change directly effects the weather, killer storms E.G. hurricanes/tornados, are the result.

Down to greedy ( powerful ) people & their friends/associates in government they are damaging the planet by stripping all natural resources.

& with no thought of the longer term effects on anyone else,

with their " I'm all right Jack, stuff you " attitude.

Do they really care about the man on the street?

    Bet they don't!

They are too busy counting their $ OR £.

  6. i soooo agree with you!  i too live in an area where we have floods and tornados.  we take care of our own.  i know about a year after katrina, we had a pretty bad tornado here.  they dispatched fema immediately but by the time they got here, everything was about cleaned up and most of the minor repairs were done.  how?  neighbor helping neighbor.  they didn't sit on their porches and yell "money, money, money"

  7. Good question but with scum like Nagin in office it isn't going to change.

  8. The Bible says God helps those who help themselves. I know that some people can't help themselves and I feel sorry for them. There will always be people who thinks the world owes them something. I heard one of the beauty queens from Mississippi say one day that the people in Mississippi worked together after Katrina and didn't expect the government to do everything. I'm not saying the people in New Orleans didn't try, but maybe there could have been a  little more effort on the part of those who could. Please keep all of us living here on the Gulf Coast in your prayers and thank you.

  9. Those buses are to help evacuate people who have no cars, and too little money. I guess the three of you would just let them die. I moved from NOLA  to "tornado alley" several years ago. I see plenty of people in this area getting help every time we have a tornado, or flood. Right now I'm able to take care of myself, but when I get older, sicker or poorer, I hope you are not my neighbors.

  10. America has created a class of helpless people who cannot function without the government. It's a shame.

  11. There are some people who think they need to be taken care of. It's sad, because they do not take responsibility for themselves and apparently do not have confidence in themselves to do so. They rely on the government to do everything for them.
