I live in New Orleans. It seems to be coming our way. Does anyone know more information about it, and how it may progress?

  1. as a citizen of new orleans...i surely hope not!

  2. It is important to watch Gustav, which is reportedly weakening and is not currently a hurricane:

In any event, there is no reason to panic.  Remember that Katrina was a record-breaking hurricane and its combination of wind-speed plus storm-surge made it the strongest storm ever recorded to strike North America. The levee improvement sbuilt during the past 2 1/2 years should prevent what happened during Katrina from happening again, even if another hugely powerful hurricane hits NOLA.

  3. it looks like it is coming our way, i live in houma and i have been looking at the direction, sorry but its coming right at  us

  4. More than likely, yes.  Governor Jindal has already had a press conference about it.  I'd be paying close attention to developments.

You can easily track Gustav with the special section of links on http://www.USAMediaGuide.com.  There, you can find links to the projected path, National Hurricane Center coverage, local TV and newspaper coverage, live webcam feeds, and other Gustav stuff.

  5. Its projected to come this way on about tuesday so its good to be prepared. But anything can happen. Hopefully it will not cause any major issues. Friday is the annivesary of Katrina so we really dont need any other reminders.

  6. Okay, seriously... it is WAY too soon for anyone to start panicing!

By all means, have a hurricane plan- stock up on various supplies in case bad weather comes and you are at home with out electricity, access to a store, etc.

Its also a good idea to have an evacuation course- make arrangements with friends/family members who live out of town that you could stay iwth in case of emergency.

That being said, Gustav is still SO far away that even with all the projections, no one knows anything yet.

    Hope for the best

    Prepare for the worst

    Stay calm regardless :)

  7. as yet another citizen of new orleans i also hope not, but its not looking to good, its supposed to enter the gulf this weekend and after that it could go in many different directions but as of now the track has it coming our way and i have heard it can become at least category 3, hopefully all is well, good luck, and stay safe
