  1. No, Gustav is NOT "set to hit you on Friday."  Some people must be on drugs.

  2. I suspect landfall will be closer to New Orleans than Houston but this is a big storm and even the pros cannot be sure where it will hit or how strong it will be when it comes ashore.  I'd watch it very close and be ready to go if it turns in your direction.  It looks to me like you will have a better idea of that by this time tomorrow but I wouldn't wait any longer than that to make a decision.  Aren't they already calling for some evacuations in eastern TX?  Actually, if it was me, I'd leave now anyway - you know, better safe than sorry and get out while the getting's good and all that.

Good luck to you and your family.

  3. Unless you live in a really flood prone area, I would think that evacuations in Houston would not be necessary.  Houston is a decent distance inland, and the current track projection (see it here: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics... is such that the Houston area will be on the left side of the tropical system, which is usually not as bad as the right side.  Houston will likely see some heavy rains and gusty winds.

  4. YES.

Gustav is set to hit you on Friday, so I would DEFINITELY get out of there as soon as you can, because it's going to be a cat 4 or 5 by the time it reaches you.  That will FLATTEN your house, trees, even skyscrapers.

Even if it doesn't wind up hitting where you are as hard, I would get out of there just in case.  Otherwise, you could be killed.

  5. no, you'll get wind and rain. If you needed to evacuate you would be told to do so. Everybody needs to stay calm! This isnt the first hurricane we've been through. Use your head, dont let the media freak you out! If people unnecassarily evacuate then it will prolong the evacuation for the people on the coast! There are people in this country now, who actually think we shouldnt be allowed to live down here, because of hurricanes! Dont fuel that with panic. We dont even know what its going to come in as. I've seen a hurricane drop down to a tropical storm right before landfall. Im not saying its not a big deal. But come on people we've done this before. Just please make sure your prepared. If you are told to evacuate, dont be stupid just do it. If you havent been told to evacuate, stay put and be safe. Good luck to everybody!

When did all these people who live elsewhere all of a sudden become experts on hurricanes. I think people on here are freakin everybody out! Am I the only one who is calm in all this? I live in baton rouge. I've done what i needed to do to prepare, now, i chill. Thats it! Chill! NO cat. 5 hurricane is gonna hit houston!  I am so worried that all these people inland are going to start evacuating for no reason and delay the real evacuations. Save the roads for people that could actually die in this thing.

  6. I would suggest listen to local TV or radio.

  7. I live in Atascocita (not far from Houston) and I don't think it's going to hit us at all.  My prediction is that New Iberia or Lafayette Louisiana will take a direct hit.  My mom is in Lafayette, but rather than get caught in traffic jams with her health issues, she is going to ride it out.

  8. I live there too. Right now i have no idea if i should be evacuating. I mean let's not bring up the hurricane last year that caused a panic over everyone when it turned out to be barely rain and thunder.

But i have no idea if we should evacuate. Some people beleive it will not hit houston, but idk .

  9. no but make a plan and be prepared for anything. make sure you have a full tank of gas. http://www.weather.com/maps/news/atlstor...
