Question:

Hurricane Gustov, Sick Husband and a 5 month old baby?

My husband started getting a runny nose yesterday and it has developed into fever today. Both Dr. offices were closed and a Hurricane is most likely going to hit us Tuesday. I am worried that my baby might catch what he has. What precautions should we or could we take to prevent this from happening? All I need is my baby to get sick with fever during a major hurricane and the Dr. office is closed due to Labor Day.

  1. Get him to wash his hands constantly!!! Maybe even wear a little mask thing when he's holding the baby!

  2. keep your husband and baby away from each other and wash your hands frequently. stay away from all windows. but also try to keep yourself healthy and safe also. give your husband medicine to help him get better. Good luck and keep safe!!

  3. Are there no urgent care clinics around? They should be open still. If there arent then there really isn't too much you can do other than using lysol on everything...doorknobs, countertops etc. so when you are holding your baby you won't be spreading it. I suppose he'll have to stay away from your baby for a few days until his fever is gone. It doesn't sound too serious just like a cold so in case your baby does start getting a fever I'd just keep the motrin on hand.  Good luck!

  4. While the doctors office might be closed, hospitals won't be. So, if your husband starts feeling bad enough to see a doctor, then head on into the ER. I know it's not a emergency, but feeling crappy when a major storm is about it hit can definitely make you feel worse!

When people live in close contact, it's hard not to spread stuff to each other. The most he can do is wash is hands before and after holding her, and try to lay of the baby smooches for a few days (hard, I know). Hope he feels better soon, and I'll pray that the hurricane will miss you guys.....

  5. I'm sorry to hear about your situation.  I hope you're well prepared for the hurricane.

Disinfect EVERYTHING!  Get hand sanitizer, and make sure your husband uses it whenever he touches something.  Make him drink plenty of fluids (getting my hubby to drink liquids when he's sick is like getting a toddler to take medicine!), and try to keep him from holding the baby.  I wish your family safety and good health.
