  1. Is the hurricane actually headed toward the Dominican Republic?  Check the Weather Channel's website for the latest information.  The bigger concern might be whether the resort you're headed to was affected by Gustav.

Your trip insurance should allow for cancellation due to a hurricane.  If so, you'd be fine cancelling your trip, money-wise.

If there's any risk with flying into DR, the airlines will be cancelling flights.

  2. Wow iv been to D.R. during two hurricanes it's not that strong when it reaches land just allot of rain it picks up strength and speed after it hit's Jamaica or Cuba.

  3. Take a chill pill lady, its just a hurricaine.  If it is not safe to fly the flight will be delayed or cancelled.

  4. It depends what part of the DR you're going to. Normally, hurricanes tend to hit harder on the southern part of the island (Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, Bavaro etc) than the northern (Playa Dorada, Sosua, Cabarete etc.). I live in closer to the north and generally hurricanes aren't too bad...a lot of rain, but not too scary.

I think Hanna is just a tropical storm though, and I don't think it's predicted to come by us, I thought it was going by the Bahamas...check again. Either way, you shouldn't be too scared. We went to the beach for our honeymoon when TS Fey was here and it wasn't bad at all...drizzly during the day, but we still walked around the restaurants to eat, and it cleared up at night so we went to the bars. Don't worry, enjoy yourself!! :) You're safe on the resort
