  1. Measures to combat a hurricane are ongoing and evolving.  Making buildings better able to withstand high winds and to some extent flooding will help in the future and reduce the costs associated with these storms.   Some areas are stopping construction adjacent to common flood areas.


  2. Hurricane Rita affected east-Texas and western-Louisiana with major structural damage, flood damage, and wind damage. This is back in September 2005

    In Beaumont, the major damage was fallen trees, tree limbs, branches, and felled electrical poles and fences. Flooding happened in Port Arthur and in Bridge City. Yet, over in western Louisiana, the damage was so severe, there was no home to come back to. In Cameron, Louisiana, the only remains from houses were the foundations and scattered debris.
