Hurricane Irene’s fear of destruction forces the NY Racing Association to reschedule their events
Due to the weather condition all races which were scheduled on the 28th of August are cancelled, among them was the Sunday’s 11-race card held at Saratoga, the events well be rescheduled as soon as the weather gets better.
According to the weather forecast, it is expected that a cyclone Hurricane Irene will be hitting the New York City this Sunday, a great sum of damage is predicted due to which racing dates were cancelled by the management.
The New York Racing Association announced the cancellation on the Saturday afternoon, on the same day before the event was called off, the transmission of wagering information at Belmont Park and Aqueduct Racing Course was also cancelled.
According to the weather forecast, great amount of rain was expected on Sunday the 28th of August, between 30 to 40 miles per hour wind is expected, and five inches or more than that rain is predicted.
After confirming the weather conditions from the weather forecast news, the president of New York Racing Association Charles Hayward, announced the cancelation because the weather will remain this way until the middle of Sunday’s afternoon.
Due to rain and the wind it was impossible to schedule a race, bad weather conditions are never considered suitable for the races.
Along with the Simulcast Wagering and the racing events held that day, the training session scheduled at Belmont Park, Saratoga Racing Course and Aqueduct Race Track was also called off, after the orders of president of New York Racing Association.
In past years these kinds of cancellations have taken place, even that time weather condition was the reason of cancellation.
In Saratoga’s history this has been the second cancellation for the full card, previously the cancellation had the same reason of bad weather condition, on the 2nd of August 2006 due to intense heat the events were postponed.
Grade 1, $ 300,000 Personal Ensign the event which was supposed to be held on the Sunday is also rescheduled, for the next coming Saturday the invitations are brought back, and on Wednesday it will be redrawn.
The famous stakes race of America the Woodward Stakes, which consists a purse of $ 750,000 is also included in the Saturday’s card, the Grade 1 Race covering the distance of 1 ½ miles was held at the Aqueduct race track previously then its venue was shifted
to the Belmont Park and recently it’s being organized at the Saratoga Race Course.
Along with the Grade 1, $750,000 Woodward, the Forego Handicap is also included in the Saturday’s card.
This Grade 1 race with prize money of $ 250,000 covers the distance of 7 furlongs was previously held at the Belmont Park, it was basically inaugurated there, and later on it was shifted to the Saratoga Race Course.
According to the president of the New York Racing Association, during the final week additional races will also be held.
