Hurricane Sandy forces New York Mets to shutdown Citi Field - MLB Update
New York Mets’ Citi Field is not immune to the impact of Hurricane Sandy as they have shutdown the stadium, making their officials work from home. In light of the fact that the Mats are supposed to make important announcements within a few days, Sandy may
hamper their day-to-day activities.
While Sandy takes its toll on the public at-large, the Mets have declared that they will retain their third baseman David Wright for the upcoming season.
Restricted by the rules to decide about the option of Wright three days after the end of the World Series, the announcement could not be made by the Mets due to Sandy.
Apart from exercising an option on Wright, the Mets will be undergoing rigorous negotiations with regard to the contract extension of the third baseman.
As per the reports, the discussions between both the parties are underway and the most likely outcome of them will be the renewal of the contract of Wright.
The Mets floundered in 2012 regular season. Their dismal win-loss record speaks volumes in this regard.
Disappointed by the failure to make it into the playoffs this year, the Mets are looking to introduce changes on the roster. In order to make sure they learn lessons from the mistakes, they aim to streamline their financial commitments with the players.
Against the backdrop of the fact that some of the Mets’ players exceeded the expectations in the season, it can be expected that they reward them in financial terms during the offseason.
For example, R. A. Dickey maintains a relatively cheaper contract with the club but his performance during the season was excellent, which means that the Mets may award him an extravagant contract extension in the days to come.
Similarly Wright proved a linchpin of the team’s offence in the season. As his existing contract expires after 2013 regular season, he can earn a blockbuster deal from the Mets.
The Mets want these two players to continue with their top-notch form in the upcoming seasons and help the team improve.
Apart from Wright and Dickey, the Mets will be addressing issues with their bullpen.
It will be hoped that Hurricane Sandy disappears at the earliest and that the Mets reopen Citi Field for their officials.
