Hurricane and Cruise?

Question

I and my partner plan to take a Western Cruise, sailing to Labadee (Haiti), Montego Bay (Jamaica) and Cozumel (Mexico). Are we going to experience the hurricane if our sailing date is from 6-13 Oct 2007? We are from Southeast Asia.

The Caribbean hurricane season is June thru November.  Most hurricane happen in August and September during the hottest months of the year.

If there is a hurricane during that period, cruises are rarely cancelled, they just change the intinerary to avoid the path of the hurricane.

hurricane season runs june - nov the peak time ( most frequent period for storms to form are sep oct nov) so to answer your question NO not the current one - (felix) its mainly heading to central america but YES... there could possibly be others by october

back in 1998 hurricane mitch formed mid october and grew to a catogory 5 and caused major damage to the caribbean

i know because i rode that sotrm out, not fun, then had to ride out hurricane ivan in 2004, that one was in sept.

june thru oct 30 is Hurricane season. There is a possibility that there will be a hurricane which might impact your cruise. I would buy cruise insurance, so you would get re-imbursement of your money. Also there is a site which tracks hurricane info.

also talk to the cruise line if you need immediate information.

Your cruise is near the end of the Caribbean hurricane season which runs from June until about October 30.  There is absolutely no way to predict whether there will be a hurricane in the Caribbean when your cruise comes up.  However, when hurricanes are predicted all of the cruise lines make advanced provision for alternate routes that take them as far away from the hurricane as is possible.  This would include, for example,  taking your cruise to Bermuda instead of Cozumel, or taking you to the Eastern Caribbean stops like St Thomas (USVirgin Islands) and/or St Maarten.  In some cases, as was the case on a cruise that we took, the ship will simple do the port stops in a different order.  So if the hurricane is still in the southern Caribbean when your ship sails, it may go to Cozumel first and then take you to other ports outside the hurricane zone.

If the hurricane is at or near the departure port when its time to leave the cruise line will delay departure or just cancel the cruise.  If there is a hurricane at the departure port at the end of the cruise, the ship will probably stay out a day or so longer .
