Hurricane and preparation?

What and how should one prepare for a hurricane? I don't plan on staying put should one come my direction. So do I still need to buy water to drink and canned food?

The main preparations that you need to make are those that you will need in case of extended power outages.  Water, non-perishable food and flashlights with batteries are some of the main ones, as well as fueling your car, as pumps and other things will not work during a power outage.

You need to buy water, and non perishable items.  A flashlight is very useful in case the power goes out and leaves you in the dark.

Water and non-perishable items are best. Then of course a flashlight would be useful, but it wouldn't hurt to have some candles too just in case the flashlight was to die. And have a radio that you can use on batteries so you can listen to the update. It's best to stay inside until you know everything is OK.
