Question:

Hurricanes and fuel bombs?

These days, hurricanes seem to be abound. There is a report on a hurricane crisis every few weeks.

When a strong hurricane strikes, but before it reaches a populated area, if we were to fly over it and drop a fuel bomb on its eye, do you think the resultant explosion can destroy the hurricane?

Can we destroy a hurricane like this?

  1. No, and there have been various ideas expressed to mitigate tropical storm formation and they have failed or never really tried.   Some have mentioned using nukes.  LOL. hahaha.    Yes, that would be smart,   a radioactive mushroom cloud...  with high winds.. lol

  2. They have actually tried this before back in the 1960's. It was called hurricane seeding. They dropped things into the eyes of hurricanes. Some of them weakened dramatically and some of them strenghtened so they decided not to use this technique anymore. I'm not sure if hurricane seeding, and hurricane bombing are the same thing, but if they tried hurricane seeding in the past and stopped it, i don't think they will use fuel bombs in the near future.

  3. well hi Karl long time my bud you never told me were you were from,I live in Miami Florida I have been all over the country having a good time and rocking America I was in tour glad to be home according to your question the only thing that I know that will work is ice it will weaken the hurricane a lot here in Miami we have gone through lots of hurricane they are not as bad because we know were they are going to hit so if you live strait in the pass and are close to the water like I am you get out I am more afraid of tornado's  very little warning  OK Karl take care hope to hear form you

  4. Yes, but don't use fossil fuel : save the dinosaurs!

  5. You would likely need a REALLY REALLY powerful bomb to significantly affect a hurricane.  There is a lot of energy within a hurricane, and attempting to disrupt it's core, where most of the storms' energy exists, would be quite formidable.  Detonating the bomb itself would likely cause as much, if not more problems than the hurricane itself.  For a more in depth discussion, you can go here: http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/C5c.h...
