  1. The eye is the calmest part of a hurricane. Surrounding the eye is the eye wall, which is the most violent part of a hurricane. The eye wall is almost a complete ring of thunderstorms and contains the strongest winds in the hurricane.

  2. I live in south Louisiana.  The eye itself is actually a break in the storm usually.  However, the rim of the eye, called the eye wall, is usually one of the worst parts.  The other part of a storm you want to stay away from if you can is the Northeast quadrant.  This is for two reasons.  First, the northeast quadrant is more likely to spawn tornadoes, which causes more damage from a hurricane than most other parts of it.  Secondly, when the storm is approaching from the south like it often does from the Gulf of Mexico, the northeast corner is pushing directly at the coast, and therefore that part of the storm produces the most serious storm surge.

  3. no...the eye is actually very calm. Its the area closest to the eye that is the worst.

  4. nope, its the calmest part but it dont last long, after that passes then you have to go through the other half of the storm!

  5. well they eye itself is very calm with no wind/light wind and no rain...but the eye wall that's a whole different story the eye wall has very violent winds and very strong rainbands
