  1. "The 2008 Atlantic hurricane season will be an ongoing event in the annual cycle of tropical cyclone formation. The season will officially start on June 1 and will run through November 30. These dates conventionally delimit the period of each year when most tropical cyclones form in the Atlantic basin."

"The 1998 Atlantic hurricane season officially began on June 1, 1998, and lasted until November 30, 1998. These dates conventionally delimit the period of each year when most tropical cyclones form in the Atlantic basin; however, the season extended through December 1 as Hurricane Nicole remained active. The most notable storms of the season were Hurricane Georges and Hurricane Mitch; the former caused heavy damages across the Caribbean Sea and on the United States' Gulf Coast as well as 603 deaths, and the latter killed at least 11,000 people, mostly in Honduras and Nicaragua, making it the deadliest hurricane of modern times."

"The 1930 Dominican Republic Hurricane, also known as Hurricane San Zenon is the fifth deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record. The second of two known tropical cyclones in the 1930 Atlantic hurricane season, the hurricane was first observed on August 25 near the Cape Verde islands. The hurricane was a small but intense Category 4 hurricane during the 1930 Atlantic hurricane season, and killed as many as 8,000 people when it crossed Hispaniola."

  2. Unfortunately, hurricane season begins June 1st and the further you get into the summer, the more likely for a hurricane. Though July won't be as active as September, it is also difficult to predict how and when a hurricane may be in the area when trying to plan an island vacation. It would be better to go in early July, as most hurricanes typically go toward the western Caribbean from the African coast and move more eastward as the summer progresses.  I would think you "should" be fine but with the weather patterns being what they are, it will probably be a gamble at anytime in the future. There is information at the website-http://www.caribeez.com and www.dashweather.com that can get you more information for weather related travel. Both can be very helpful.
