Hurricanes outclass the Queensland Reds after a close contest, 28-26 – Super Rugby update
Hurricanes outclassed the Queensland Reds by 28-26 in a Super Rugby competition on Saturday evening, April 30th.
The Hurricanes scored four tries to grab their third victory of the Super Rugby championship this season. The victory is a real booster for them as they had secured just two victories under their belt before this clash.
The Hurricanes have been hit by a spate of injuries in the current Super Rugby competition. Aaron Cruden made his comeback and led the backline in a team that featured six changes.
Full-back, Cory Jane, and inside-centre, Ma'a Nonu, were left out of the side. Andre Taylor replaced Jane while Charlie Ngatai came in at number twelve. They made another two changes in the pack as Jason Eaton and Faifili Levave came in for Jeremy Thrush
and Serge Lilo at lock and flank, respectively.
On the other hand, Reds also went in to the game with six changes to their starting line-up. The Faingaa twins, Anthony and Saia, loose-forward, Radike Samo, and Wallabies lock, Rob Simmons, were all on the bench.
Chambers got a chance in the midfield and veteran lock, Van Humphries, returned to the second row for his 50th Reds match. Former Wallabies prop, Greg Holmes, was also included in the playing 15 from the bench to replace the injured Ben Daley.
Reds took an early lead in the game with Higgenbothom’s try that was leveled by Hurricanes’ Leiua during the 12th minute of the game.
The Hurricanes increased their score to 10-5 with the help of Cruden’s try followed by a lovely conversion, ten minutes before the break. Hurricanes prevailed over the Reds for the rest of the first part of the game and ended up the first half leading by
22-5. This was the best half for the Hurricanes in the matches they have played so far this season.
The Reds bounced back quite nicely in the second part of the game and scored a couple of quick tries along with a conversion. They picked their game up and ended up very close to a victory. Hurricanes scored four tries in the match to outclass the second
