I was once a great soprano ( and very very high pitched and could sing oprah) now this was in the 7th grade. Now am going in the tenth grade and i'm presently a tener/with a bit of alto. When i try to sing soprano no sound comes out. Can i fix that by tryin over and over again or will that just hurt my voice and interfare with my tener/altoish voice?

  1. Don't do it.

As men's voices develop, they lose their falsetto (high) register. Some males can still sing in the soprano range (they are called *sopranists*, look it up on YouTube), but these are born rather than trained - some have hormonal imbalances. Michael Maniaci, one of the most famous sopranists, did not see his vocal cords develop during puberty, and his voice did not deepen. He has a naturally high speaking voice.

As a 9th-grader, I could sing up to the C two ledger lines above the treble clef. Now I'm only confident of the E flat a major 6th below it.

  2. Trying to fix a change in your range by aggressively attempting to "hit" higher notes could easily damage your vocal cords over time. The very best thing you can do is to sign up for voice lessons and explain to your coach that you want to stretch your range higher. They'll be able to gently guide you through it without causing you damage.

On a personal note, I performed in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat playing the Narrator. It was too high for me but I completed a four month run pushing out the high notes regardless of damage. My career was effectively ended by it, because now I can barely sing at all and this was a year ago.

If you get the proper training, not only is it possible to get some of your upper range back, but you'll strengthen yourself as a singer as well!

Good luck, and remember, it's not how many octaves you can sing, it's how well you use the notes you've got. :)

  3. Try drinking hot tea more often it will open your vocal chords and making your voice able to hit high notes again. I had the same problem and it woked in about a week and also before a big performance I always suck on a coughdrop b.c that opens your throat thus letting you hit the high notes. My singing coach and my current 9th chorus teacher told me about these remedies! Hope it helps!

  4. Maybe if you work really hard, support, raise the soft pallet, and all that, but some people's voices change and just can't do that high anymore. Especially in that time period (7-10 grade). That's when our voices change the most. I actually lost my contralto-soprano for a while when my voice changed, but I got it back by doing-hey!-what I just listed. Try that, but if that doesn't work, it's just part of growing up and maturing.
