My husband will be 30 in June. I am looking to plan a fun party for him. I have no idea what to do! I would prefer not to have it at our home. There won't be a lot of people, maybe 30 or so. Do you think I should rent a room and have karaoke (which would be fun for our friends) or have it at a bar?? I'm so bad at party planning LOL!

  1. You could have a very fun private party with a little dancing by you, of course.  Bowling is fun, but i think you had something with the karaoke.  You can rent a space for very little.  Set it up with a red carpet for your husband and other honored guests.  Have little prizes from Oriental Trading, etc.  Have plenty of categories so everyone comes away with a favor.  If you have a good system, you can record everyone's performance and send it home also.

  2. Does anybody bowl ??  We have been to a few bowling parties and had a really good time.  Most of them have bars and have Rock n'Bowl nights.  Even people who have never bowled before have fun.  Most have automatic scoring now too, so you don't need to know anything about bowling.

  3. Reserve a large table at a restaurant that specializes in taking large groups and reserve for a night the restaurant has live music.  Some restaurants turn into nightclubs after hours, so you could look into one of those.  Plan for a late dinner and you'll have a party right there after you eat!

  4. I can remember my Fathers 30th birthday party.  My Mother bought plain white T's and stenciled on her shirt "My husband is 30"  for us kids "My Dad is 30" and for him "I'm 30!"  ..and so on for the rest of th relatives.  My Father loved it, and it was different.  June is a nice time to have an out doors party, with horse shoes and other outside games.  I'm sure you could find a place to rent that is outside with a tent in case of rain.  Good Luck :)

  5. Check around for an outside place  ... like a park which holds parties, or a gazebo.   Ask people if they know of places.   If you have area lakes - they may have facilities.

Have something like a "roast".    Have old friends & family get up on a microphone and tell a story about him.   If he has kids - have them write a poem to him - and read it out loud.

Hire someone to come to the party and sing him an embarrassing telegram.

Have a huge cake made .. that has to be pushed out on a cart .. make it several layers .. and have tons of candles on it.  Get the candles that won't blow out ... he will blow & blow & blow.

If you could find some facility - you could help and cook BBQ, etc.

See if family or friends can help you find someone who would play music at the party ...and .. find someone who will sing him a wonderful happy birthday song.

Before you have someone sing the seriously good happy birthday song ... you could play a trick on him .   I saw this at a party once .. and it was great.   Get a huge box -- one like washing machines comes in ... put someone goofy in the box where they cannot be seen ... have the box on a dollie where it can be pulled in front of him ,,, then let whoever is in the box come out of the box .. this person could sing a goofy song to him - or give him a kiss .. or whatever you want them to do ... it's just good fun - and makes a light party for everyone.

You could also rent machines like popcorn, coke machines, margarita, etc.

You could also have a slide show of him beginning when he was just a child.

  6. Rent a community room. Since he is turning 30 throw him an over the hill party. Have the guest bring inexpensive gag gifts such as Geritol, Depends, Ensure or what ever they find funny from a party store or Spencers.

Borrow or rent a wheel chair to be his place to sit and find a bottle that can be used as a prop to look like an oxygen bottle. You can buy the hose and mask from the pharmacy or medical supply store. Make a sign and post under the Handicap parking sign with your husbands name on it "reserved for _____". Throw a lap blanket over the wheel chair and put a bib on the table by the chair. Go to a bakery and order an specialty over the hill cake. They can help you with ideas. Decorate inside and out with red, black and white ballons and crepe ribbon. I used photo shop and paisted my husband into a picture with dinosaurs and set it on teh table with teh cake.

Make a poster for all your guests to sign with pictures going around the edge of your husband from when he was a baby to current, being sure to add pictures that marked mile stones in his life.

Since 30 people are a rather large group and all will want to be entertained be sure to have music and dancing with liquor and you might concider setting up a few gaming tables like craps and black jack and a table for poker. Something simple that doesn't require much equipment. Some people might want to just play something that isn't gambling so you can set up a couple of tables with other games or cards. Your guests are probably going to break up into groups of 5 or 6 anyway so you might concider offering at least 4 or 5 different options of things to do.

Hope I've helped and I hope everyone has fun.
