My good friend is getting married at the end of the summer. I am in the wedding party, and my husband is not. We do not have a lot of money to buy him an expensive suit to wear. What is an inexpensive alternative? Or, where can I find an inexpensive suit? Thanks in advance!

  1. Go to Goodwill or some kind of Thrift Shop. This is what I did for my husband when he needed one for a wedding. If you can find one close to a higher class town that's even better.

People give away things they have only worn once or twice all the time. Sometimes you can find stuff with the tags still on it. It cost me more money to get the suit dry cleaned then it actually cost me to buy.

Another choice could be getting the pants and dress shirt from Steve and Barry's if there is one near you. Everything they have is under 10 bucks. Then you could buy a jacket somewhere else. I have never tried to shop there online so that may be an option. Good Luck!!

  2. I would definitely advise he wear a suit.  Suits are standard wedding attire for men, even in the summer.  It's what nearly all the other guests will be wearing, and he can always take the jacket off if he is hot.

I agree with the second poster that a suit is an investment that once he owns, he will wear numerous times to numerous events.  One suit is a must for every man's closet.  There are a lot of department stores that sell suits at a relatively inexpensive price.  It is worth the money for something that will be well used in the coming years.

  3. He could just wear nice dress pants and a shirt and tie since it will be summer and warm. If he really wanted to he could hire a suit jacket or borrow a friends but I don't think it's necessary unless the dress code is specifically black tie.

  4. I would just wear dress pants, dress shirt and a tie..  Around here you can rent suits for as little as 75 dollars plus 25 for shoes...soo just look around.. I'm sure you can find something! Good Luck!

  5. A good suit isn't just a one occasion outfit for a guy.  They can wear it pretty much anywhere, so you can consider it an investment.

There are plenty of places to buy a good quality suit without spending a ton of money.  The Men's Warehouse and even places like JC Penney are good places to start.  Check for sales and special offers.

As an alternative, a nice pair of dress slacks, along with a sport coat, shirt and tie are always good options.

  6. Find something that looks OK and fits OK at a second hand store. have it cleaned and fitted by a seamstress. Look around for someone who'll do the modification cheaply. If you get lucky you'll find a jacket that fits well so it won't need modification. Pants are fairly easy and therefore cheap to modify. That's what I did for myself in the same situation, except my date wasn't in the wedding party...

  7. I believe you can rent suits if he is not yet ready to purchase one.  I don't think it's a good idea to purchase a cheap suit, b/c suits are usually something men keep for their whole lives (or until they are terribly out of style). You should be able to rent a tux (i'm not sure of the cost) at any local bridal place, etc.  That much better than paying for a suit when you are not getting the best quality. Good luck!

  8. Check out your local resale shops!!  I found a suit for my brother at a Goodwill for only $8.00.  We spent another $25.00 to have it cleaned and tailored.  He's worn it for years!
