I recently weaned my two male adopted ferrets off of Marshalls and onto Totally Ferret (blue and silver package). I was low on Ferret food and I have not received the bag I ordered on-line, so asked my husband to pick up a bag on his way home today.

He picked up Totally Ferret, but this is different. $30, 7lb white bag, containing Turkey, Venison and Lamb. 35% protein. They were out of the other.

I'm used to seeing a lot of chicken based foods but not these. Does this sound healthy enough?

Tempted to even go to Innova EVO but don't want to s***w them all up with the constant food changes. - Still trying to figure out what is best, besides a raw diet.

  1. The food should be fine- really, any meat is ok. Chicken is usually just the cheapest to produce. Anything that has lower grain products in is ok.

It is good to do food changes and mixtures- you do not want your ferrets dependent on one food, in case it is discontinued, or out of stock, as in your case.. I feed a mix of totally ferret,  zupreem, and innova evo. The EVO goes the quickest- my ferrets love it. My guys, from eating a mixture of foods, will now eat anything I put in there.

  2. I feed Evo kibble exclusively (purple bag for kittens) and really like it.  I also feed a meat mixture of one jar of baby food, one can of AD cat and raw chicken.  Evo is a No carb food in that it does not contain corn or wheat and iit has a good quality animal protein.  They use chicken and turkey, no by products.  I do not like Marshals, too much fish and corn.  I don't like the totally ferret either because of the by products, wheat and corn.  I get all my rescues on Evo immediately but do not mix their food.

  3. Sounds alright, I just make sure there is NO Gluten in the food my ferrets will be eating. I feed a mixture of foods...Dr. Foster and Smith Original Ferret Food, Marshalls and Hills Prescription Diet d/d Rabbit and green pea. I add in the d/d because it is rabbit which is a staple of wild mustelidae prey..I have been thinking about ferret EVO and I have heard their p**p is smellier and harder to clean up because of the high protein. I try to keep 2 of the foods the same and mix in different brands,  I think I will try the EVO but not as the only kibbles.

  4. As long as it's meat based it all right.

  5. Sounds all right.
