Husband is in Korea.....Going to Germany next.

My husband is in Korea with assignment to Germany. The kids and I are living near Ft. Campbell. Without a copy of orders will I be able to take care of all the things I need to do before we can travel. He knows a soldier that didn't get his orders until 45 days out. If it takes that long for us, I don't know if I will be able to arrange transportation of household goods and POV. If anyone knows of any links that would give me a check list of things to do that would be great. We don't live on post so I have no idea where to go on Campbell to get information. He will be coming home for 2 weeks leave but by then I need to have everything taken care of. What about passports? Can I have them made at Campbell now or will I need to wait for a copy of paper orders?

  1. you will need to undergo an Overseas Screening (medical & dental) and file that paperwork.  You cannot file for a No-Fee passport until that paperwork is completed. You can set up a move through the TMO but to do that you need a copy of the orders.

While it is difficult moving at short notice it can be done.  you also might be required to wait and go after him when he has checked in and has a house for you to move into.

Find out if the base has a Moving class, that can really help you out with information.

  2. Try contacting the Family Readiness Center at Campbell. 270-798-3849.

All posts will have a briefing that soldiers and families can go to and it is explained there all the things you have to do for an overseas move. If this office can't help you find about that briefing, they should be able to point you in the right direction. Someone may be able to get you this info without you having to actually go there.

  3. You definitely need your husband's government orders, you can't process anything like POV shipment, TMO, dependent passports without it.  If you want to travel when you get to Germany you will need a tourist passport, because the dependent passport is not suffiecient enough.  A good place to visit would be militaryonesource.com  this site is filled with information.  BUT PLEASE TRY TO GET YOUR HUSBAND"S GOVERNMENT ORDERS -- REALLY IMPORTANT.

My wife and I and two kids  were stationed in Ramstein, Germany for 3 years.  By the way, that's where you and your family will be arriving, because it's the terminal hub in europe.  good luck.

  4. I would definitely start working on getting passports now.  And not just the dependent ones but real ones.  One thing we don't think about often is what if...  What if something happened to him and you wanted to be there at the hospital.  It makes it a lot harder to travel if you don't already have your passport.

  5. You need to contact the base's Travel section.  Not the ITO, where you get tickets for Disneyworld, but where they actually prepare military families to move, or Permanent Change of Station (PCS)

If that does not help, contact MilitaryOneSource at 800.342.9647 or www.militaryonesource.com.

Also, since you are a military dependent, there is a section on Army Knowledge Online (AKO) that has all the answers to the questions that you just posted - and more.  You can get there by going to https://us.army.mil.  There is a section called "My Library", and it will have everything military that you need

Finally, see if you can open this link:  http://www.defenselink.mil/mapsite/reloc... (Its Your Move).  It helped me a time or two.

    Good Luck
