  1. one thing i got to tell you yes there is allot of mosquitos in the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC I went last year i was in SANTIAGO BECAUSE I live there I own a house over there and yes my daughters got bitten in every part of there body I suggest you to bring over there some off for the mosquito and on top of that my daughter is allergic to mosquito bites it was horrible but is a beautiful area I have to say the people very friendly and outgoing very sociable people. you feel at home my husband is American and I'M from Brazil we love it over there  the only thing i don't like is the mosquito but i bring off and spray all over her except the face because they don't go there only the arm and legs you should go with your husband

  2. Hi, Vanessa,

I was reading the answers of some of the "answerers" and I must think or they don't know anything and just tell "stories" or they are n..s. Ok, I live over here for 15 years and never had problems with mosquitos, just you have to be aware that your sistem (body) muts adapt to the different climate and this can take up to 7 weeks maximum. Dengue ? Fever? this is not Africa my dear ! The people who have problems most of the time they carry it inside long before comming to this country, but due to the change of climate the reaction is faster. The same happend to some tourist they declare "we been very il" what they don't know and certainly not saying is that they had the illness before comming to this marvelous country. Some even catch a sikness in the airplane (close environment). The clinics and hospitals in Santiago are by the best that I know (even better thant some Usa/European ones!.)  don't worry and go with your husband! Here the most dangerous thing is leaving your husband alone....

    Hope this helped.

  3. There are TONS of mosquito here and YES I live here.  Depending on the ammount of rain will depend on the mosquitos.

  4. Darling, don't let your husband go alone!  I grew up from 12 to 18 yrs. old in Dom. Rep. Been there several times since with the family. It was the most wonderful experience!!  Never had health issue and NEVER a weight issue like when I moved back to USA.  The Dom. Rep. is not like parts of Africa or India.  It has some of the best resorts in the world and some of the best medical schools in the western hemisphere. Your babies will be fine with proper immunizations like they would have in the USA. Now, your husband will not be lonely in the land of merengue!  Hot ladies abound, but so do great babysitters and housekeepers (very cheap), so beware. Good Luck to you & God Bless!

  5. Go.

I have been there 6 times in the last 4 years in various seasons and various locales and not had mosquito problems. I would defnitely keep bug spray and itch relief on hand though for just normal humid weather bugs.    I do recommend Hep A and B and typhoid vaccines for all of your family before going due to the difference in preparations of food etc.

I would also not leave your husband alone, there are many women there and the culture while Catholic, in my experience, the people I know, my friends etc. is at times promiscuous.

Its a beautiful country, Santiago is the most modern of all the major cities.

        GO.

    wish you the best
