this morning my husband took my car to the store, then wrecked it by driving into a ditch. I am still making payments on the car and I had no insurance coverage as of late. What will this mean, and please, no bad comments or judgements calls, of course I realize it should have been insured....

  1. You must now pay to have the car fixed and also must continue to make payments.  But...... Are you sure there was no insurance on the car ?  How did the loan company allow you to drive "their" car without at least comprehensive and collision insurance ?  One of the posters here has given you bad and false advice and is telling you to do illegal things.  I hope you don't listen.

  2. I agree with Chad.  You will still have to pay for the car, and it's all out of pocket.  No one was hurt, so it could have been MUCH worse, then you would REALLY need the insurance!

  3. The bank doesn't allow you to be without insurance on a car that's not paid for.

Now you know why, I guess.

What it means is absolutely nothing.  You'll have to pay back every penny you owe the bank, and in addition, you'll have to have something to drive.  That's pretty much true every morning that you wake up. Today's no different.  You can either drive the wrecked car or buy a different car.

  4. It means you have no car, but you still have car payments.

If you're asking something else, I have no idea what it is.

Consequences?  Well, the car remains will probably be impounded, and your husband could get a suspended license for driving without insurance, depending on where you live, and what mood the cops were in this morning.

    Sorry.

  5. Many people sell off the parts on ebay to recoup some of the cost.

    Good Luck...

  6. It means that 100% of all repairs, tow costs, and remaining payments are your responsibility.

  7. You're gonna be paying on a car that you don't have. If you don't you'll get sued.

  8. I suppose he knew and you knew that there was no insurance on the car. Now you have to sue him to get your car fix

  9. Ebay

  10. First, I assume that your husband wasn't injured in the accident. Next, I assume that the car wasn't totaled.

Have the car towed out of the ditch and take it to a few reputable repair shops for estimates to repair the damage. Then get it repaired!

  11. sad how this all plans out, being an ex insurance agent for many years some people fix the vehicle, get it fully insured "full coverage" with lowest deductible then once it's repaired you still have the bill for that. But they would leave the vehicle if a bad part of town or high theft area and it would be stolen, stripped, burned etc etc. Thus being fully covered the ins. co would pay off the lien, you pay your deductible and that was that. The repair bill is still yours but the lien will be satisfied.  And or an auto replacement near similar cost. Sad how this works ( one reason I got out of the ins. biz)

  12. You are on your own for the repair of the vehicle, if it is repairable.  You are going to have to let the lienholder know that the vehicle is totaled.    They may salvage it, but you will still need to make good on your lien.  You can probably roll the existing lien over to the purchase of another vehicle.

  13. It just means you'll have to continue making the payments until the loan is paid off. Call and let the finance company know the car has been damaged. If the car is really totaled, the lienholder will pick up the car and try to get as much money as they can for it -- you still owe the balance of the loan. You'll have to buy another car out of pocket. :(

  14. d**n that sucks. your screwed your gonna have paments for a car you cant drive. i would suggest that you start looking for parts for you car what did he mess up or did he flip it? if its just a bent A frame or broke tie rod or something to that effect then try looking at a junk yard for some parts. sorry but the car is yours and noone is gonna give you much of anything for the wrecked car try parting it out. sorry
