Huser Ayla trounces Rankin Anna in Women’s Singles tie – Sudirman Cup 2013
Women’s Singles shuttler, Huser Ayla, of Switzerland played flawless badminton and served the notice of her potential in Level 3 of Sudirman Cup on Friday, May 24, 2013.
She locked horns with a spirited female shuttler, Rankin Anna, from New Zealand and their meeting prolonged to 41 minutes before ending with final figures of 23-21 and 25- 23.
Though, the Swiss lady managed to wrap this showdown in just two games, she had to sweat hard throughout the tussle. This was because of the great resilience shown by the opposing shuttler.
Anna showed great fighting spirit, despite of going down in both segments of the encounter. She did not allow her rival to lock an easy triumph.
In the opening game, the Kiwi contender launched an intensive attack and gained a decent advantage without wasting any time. She relished full benefits of this initial lead and kept her challenger at the lower
end. However, things got changed when Ayla employed an effective counterattack strategy and brought the contest to the right balance. She bagged many valuable points in the pressure situation and finished first half of the set with a favourable score position.
Latter part of the game kept the audience glued to their chairs, as both contenders challenged each other in all departments of game and made this tie a memorable contest. Initially, the Swiss shuttler was in
commanding position but then Anna tipped the scale in her favour with few back-to-back productive rallies.
The game kept swinging between them all the way to final moments and finally this cliff-hanging contest ended when Ayla registered a winning margin of 23-21.
The following game also proved a tough trial for both female shuttlers as neither of them could enjoy a permanent lead throughout the set.
They stood toe-to-toe in first half of the set and played in similar fashion also after the mid-game break. They pushed each other in all areas of the court and earned great round of applause from the spectators.
In the end, the Swiss lady got a chance to conclude this contest and she did not squander that opportunity. Ayla placed an overwhelming score of 25-23 and raised hands as victor.
