I'm looking at buying my first sewing machine and have been checking out the Huskystar 215. Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions about this machine? Any other recommendations?

  1. It's not a bad machine, but as Kay says, you'll do better looking at pre-loved ones in the same price range...

I also speak as a Husqvarna owner of many years standing.

  2. Huskystars are made for Viking, and are intended as "not quite up to our standards but entrylevel" machines.  Personally, at that price level, I'd probably be thinking about a good used machine or, if it must be new, Janome (they seem to do about the best quality of the low end machines.)  And I say that as a Viking owner (12 yr old midline electronic).

You might also want to look at the machine reviews at http://www.patternreview.com when you get things narrowed down to a few models.

Whatever you buy, make sure it works well and you're not afraid of it.
