Hussey fights as England on top
Michael Hussey fought hard against top quality seam bowling from England's seam bowlers, as he struck a fighting half century. As a result, Australia piled up 159 runs for the loss of five wickets by tea on the first day of the second Ashes Test at the Adelaide
Oval.
Andrew Strauss would be delighted with the start, having England on the modest score-line of 159/5, after the English captain lost the toss and was allowed to bowl first on a batting paradise.
The second session clearly belonged to England as they grabbed two wickets in the post-lunch session. Overall, the visitors conceded 65 runs for the loss of two wickets.
Hussey carried his brilliant form from Wolloongabba Brisbane to the Adelaide Oval as he racked up 71 runs in a resolute manner. The Australian left-hander mixed attack with defence as he put his team in a competent position at tea.
In addition to this, Hussey and Shane Watson assembled a 94-run partnership to rescue the home team from an early debacle. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 only added one run to his first session’s score of 50 runs.
Marcus North struggled to score runs at a decent pace as his 26 runs conceded 94 balls. However, the struggling left hander put up a decent 60-run partnership with Hussey to put the hosts in a comfortable position.
Seam bowling for England has been stunning as they grabbed four out of five wickets that fell today. Anderson was the star of the show for England as he registered brilliant figures of 3/31 by tea.
Right after lunch, Anderson accounted for the dismissal of Shane Watson to push the home team backwards. England’s premier bowler, bowled a perfect out-swinger to entice Watson into a flashy drive, and, in order to play the cover drive, Watson only managed
an outside edge, which went straight towards the gully region, where Pieterson took a sharp catch.
Steven Finn joined the party by dismissing North, just before the tea interval. Finn bowled a wide delivery and the cut shot was on, but an out of form North edged it straight towards the wicket keeper, where Matt Prior took a simple catch.
Previously, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 won the toss and elected to bat first on 'batting beauty'. On the contrary, they crashed to their worst start in a Test innings in 60 years as they were 3 down in the space of two runs. Anderson wreaked havoc in the first session of
play as he grabbed two Australian wickets in the space of 13 deliveries.
Michael Hussey (71) and Brad Haddin (2) will resume the Australian innings after tea. It will be crucial for Australia that these two build a solid partnership in order to steer their team to a competent first innings total.
On the other hand, England will look to finish off the opposition innings as quickly as possible in order to gain an early advantage.
