The Schalke manager has admitted that his side were inferior to Hamburg at the weekend despite winning comfortably with a 3-1 scoreline.
Die Knappen manager, Huub Stevens, has expressed his satisfaction after beating Hamburg at the weekend and strengthening their claim for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
However, he specified that his side were lucky to come out with all three points after the opponents missed numerous scoring opportunities.
Teemu Pukki, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gojko-Kacar-c15084 bagged a consolation for the visitors. Stevens opined that the Red Shorts showed excellent attacking instincts throughout
the game but were unlucky to finish on the losing side.
The manager admitted that his players were not up for the game as they returned one day before the game from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233
but finished second best as the home side converted a penalty in the second-half.
While talking to reporters after the game, Stevens further added:
"We were very effective. In truth, Hamburg were the better team over the whole game. We fought hard, but I did not see any good football and that was down to tiredness after the tough game in Enschede and the big disappointment
in losing there because of a refereeing decision.”
On the other hand, Hamburg manager Thorsten Fink praised Schalke’s effort especially in the first-half. He stressed at the importance of keeping possession and making most of the chances which eventually helped the hosts to win.
The tactician admitted that his team did not deserve all three points considering the missed opportunities throughout the game.
"We try to play the game and Schalke just took their chances. Schalke were more incisive so, therefore, we deserved to lose," Fink concluded.
This win has taken Schalke within one point of Borussia Monchengladbach, who played out a home draw against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Freiburg-c40462 on Saturday, March 10.
The Veltins-Arena outfit will next be in action against Twente on Thursday, March 15, for the second-leg of their Europa League round-of-16 tie.
