The Schalke manager has expressed his delight after the victory over Bayer Leverkusen which takes them above Borussia Monchengladbach on the standings table.
Huub Stevens has showered praise on his side after getting the better of Robin Dutt’s men at the weekend. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Klaas-Jan-Huntelaar-c21175.
The manager stated that his players responded well to the situation but believes that there should have been more than two goals. Stevens also hailed the efforts of his team’s leading goal scorer, Huntelaar, who scored in both
halves to take his personal tally to 22 goals this season, one short of Mario Gomez, who is the current top scorer this term.
Stevens mentioned that his team controlled the game well and should be delighted with their performance especially ahead of their UEFA Europa League fixture against Athletic Bilbao. While talking to official Bundesliga website,
the tactician further added:
“That was a great game for the fans to watch. My only complaint is that we scored just two goals. Huntelaar got great service today - he thrives on that.”
On the other hand, Leverkusen manager Robin Dutt admitted that his team failed to maintain momentum in both the halves and therefore rightly ended up losing the game. He praised the team’s efforts in the second-half where the BayArena
outfit tried to level things up but failed to surpass the Gelsenkirchen defence.
“We didn't play well and especially in the first half our defending was poor. There was too little going forward too. After the break we were more aggressive and had a few chances, but we didn't really look dangerous. Schalke deserved
to win - our team is on its last legs,” Dutt concluded.
As a result, Leverkusen are fifth with 40 points, level on points with Werder Bremen and fighting hard for a place in next season’s UEFA Europa League. Schalke, on the other hand, have gone above The Foals at the third spot and
look certain for a place in next term’s UEFA Champions League.
Leverkusen will next be in action against Freiburg on Saturday, March 31, at the BayArena whereas Schalke will travel to Hoffenheim on Sunday, April 1.
