Former Hamburg SV manager Huub Stevens has expressed his interest for the vacant job at the club and admitted that he would be privileged to take charge. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Oenning was sacked recently after a series of poor results and Stevens
claims that his preference surely would be Rothosen, despite offers from other clubs also.
Stevens has earlier managed Hamburg in the 2007-08 season when he replaced Thomas Doll. He guided the club to an eighth place finish at the end of the season. It was a huge achievement as the club was hovering just above the relegation
zone when he took over. His contract was not renewed at the end of the campaign so he took the managerial job at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven.
Hamburg are struggling at the bottom of the table with only one point from six matches. They have lost five times already this season and are surely struggling for results.
Stevens claimed that he would love to manage Hamburg in the future as it is a club he has always loved. The manager admitted that he had enjoyed his time in the 2007-08 season and will relish another chance.
“I am constantly called by German journalists and they tell me that I am the preferred candidate. But I have not yet been approached. HSV is a club that has stolen my heart,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former PSV manager added that he is at home for the past six months after he left Red Bull Salzburg and would definitely prefer a move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 if given an opportunity.
“I have been at home now for six months since leaving Salzburg. I have had offers from abroad but I am not just talking to any club. But if HSV call, I will definitely talk,” he concluded.
Huub Stevens could face some tough competition for the Hamburg job from Marco Van Basten as he is also a serious contender.
“We will look at every serious offer. Hamburg should contact us, we will definitely listen to what they have to say,” Van Basten’s agent stated.
The decision is expected to be made in the next one week.
