The Schalke manager is aiming to secure a win against the Dutch side in the UEFA Europa League to progress.
Die Knappen will take on former Dutch champions, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233, in the Last 16 of the UEFA Europa League fixture at the De Grolsch Veste on Thursday, March 8. The Germans got the better of Czech side Viktoria Plzen whereas Twente downed
Steaua Bucharest to go through.
Stevens claims that Enschede have been in great touch all season and are one of the contenders to win this season’s Eredivisie title. The manager admitted that he is hugely impressed by the team’s performance against his former
side PSV Eindhoven last week. The visitors thrashed PSV with an impressive 6-2 score-line to make a statement.
The Schalke boss added that it will not be an easy fixture for his side as the opposition has some world-class players who are capable of turning the game on its head. He insisted that his team has great respect for the Dutch giants
and stated that he expects the same from them.
“Enschede have put a good team together and they deserve to be title-contenders. I was in the stadium to watch their 6-2 win away to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven. Enschede were ruthless in exploiting PSV’s weaknesses. We will travel to Enschede
with a great deal of respect, but I'm sure Twente will accord us the same level of respect,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The Dutchman is hopeful that the match will bring his side back to winning ways after a string of disappointing results recently. Die Knappen have lost their last two fixtures against Bayern Munich and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Freiburg-c40462 and are in desperate
need of a win.
“We are looking forward and the Europa League gives us the chance to get back to winning ways. The team knows what is expected of them,” he concluded.
Schalke will be hoping to secure an advantage in the first-leg of the last 16 clash against the Dutch side and have the advantage of playing in the final leg at home. A draw would be considered a favourable result for Huub Stevens
against the former Eredivisie champions.
