Swansea City chairman, Huw Jenkins believes that the move to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson on a permanent contract became unlikely the moment Brendan Rodgers parted ways with the club. However, he insisted that the Swans need to carry on under their new
manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Laudrup with the resources they have at their disposal.
The Icelandic International arrived at the Liberty Stadium on loan from the German outfit Hoffenheim for a six-month spell in January. Since his move, the 22-year old proved to be one of the signings of the season, as he blasted 7 goals in just 19 appearances
and also won the Premier League Player of the Month award for March.
Even though the player is reported to have come to an agreement with the Swans over his permanent signing in May, Rodgers departure is believed to be the major reason behind the failure of the move to transpire. Seeing the player’s lack of willingness to
stay at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041, the Northern Irishman himself made advances towards the player in order to land him at Merseyside.
However, the episode of Sigurdsson’s possible future destination took yet another turn recently, as some reports have surfaced that the midfielder has already penned a deal with Tottenham Hotspur.
With Spurs having put forward an 8 million pounds offer to Hoffenheim for the player’s transfer to White Hart Lane, Jenkins indicated that they are not willing to stretch their 6.8 million pounds proposal for the player, and admitted that his stay at Swansea
had become highly unlikely once Rodgers left the management.
He told the reporters, “Gylfi was a signing that was on the cards when Brendan was with us…The delay in signing Gylfi – probably three weeks – meant I believed it was the right thing not to push that signing. It was the right thing to wait and make a joint
decision.”
Nevertheless, as the clubs gear up for the transfer activities, the Swans chairman insisted that it was pertinent for the club to move on from the Sigurdsson chapter and it was now down to the new appointee, Laudrup to take decisions on the new signings.
He added, “Michael should be given the opportunity to look himself and make decisions on what he wants. He can stamp his own authority and own policy on players and the team.”
He went on to say that Sigurdsson and Steven Caulker were the two bright epochs in Swans last season campaign, but they have now entered the era of Laudrup.
