Hy is there over one million males in dubai and only about 350,000 females?

there are many asian and far eastern bachelors there and a lot of single status workers without their families.  that could account for it, i dont know where yr figures from and if they are accurate but it will always seem more men than women there as a lot of women do not go out alone.

I haven't noticed the discrepancy myself.  There seem to be as many females as males in public.  I think it has to do with the large number of men living in labour camps working on major construction projects.

Dubai is a booming country with a lot of construction going on. These construction companies hire male labourers by thousands. The rest of the industries in Dubai has a 65%-45% (*) ratio in favor of males.

*my own figures, not supported by factual survey.

1. reason (for the most Asians, Indians Pakistanis etc.):  many foreign workers do not meet the requirements of the UAE government to sponsor a wife. (Minimum salary, NOC of company etc).

2. reason: middle income employees find it hard to meet ends, send their families back home and share rooms with other men.

3. reason: (mostly Westrners): the wife has a good job at home and does not want to give it up. Husband stays in the UAE just for a couple years.

4. reason: unmarried couples who live together in their home countries can not do the same over here, because a boyfriend can not sponser a girlfriend.

That are the reasons why you find much more males than females in the UAE. But - it's not that the male population of Emiratis is in discrepancy with Emirati girls. It's just because: see reason 1.
